From what I have seen the likelihood of picks for players seems to be:

CB>MLB>>>OLB

Which is why I put the dumber guys at SF. Maybe hurts their positioning, but I just hoping the Positioning skill makes up for that.

What physicals/TW/Int are your suggesting overall for TE/FB/RB?

For sure higher=better but to give me atleast a clue how much speed a TE needs or str for FB.

Depends who you run the ball with.

I played ~18 seasons with a RB coach and was running with RB so my RBs had 40-45 STR and 47-50 SPE.
With a FB coach I've had better ones but currently start a 41 STR 48 SPE FB who's doing well but have a couple of 45 STR 50 SPE FB in the making.

TW depends how early you need them as it doesn't affect on the field play for RB/FB. If a player has good physicals and skills INT/TW are almost irrelevant for RB/FB. I had a starting FB doing well for me in Elite with ~20 INT/TW but good physicals, experience and skills for example.

For TE it depends how you use them, SPE and INT are important if you want them catching the ball a lot. STR and TW are more important if you want them to block more. All 4 ideally if you want a multi-threat TE.

I think we all agree that we would prefer 50 spd and str and tw and int and agi on all players. But when given a 45 str 30 spd or 37 str 42 spd, we sometimes have to make do with what we've got, even if it's less than desired.

As I read it, that's what the past few pages has been about. Not good or bad advice, but advice on "less than perfect" players.

Happy easter.

As a rookie manager, I can tell you that I sold/cut players with the builds you mentioned. And that is what I would recommend any player do, unless they have some sort of extenuating circumstance like having 4* experience or highly developed skills at a young age. I see no reason to pump training points into a player that you can buy an upgrade for at 10K on the TM.

From a theoretic standpoint I agree with you.

We can't always expect the home run though.

You can definitely expect high skills than those though. If you set your standards higher, you can easily fill your YA with better players. Just pick up a few of the guys floating on the TM for 5-25K. Sometimes they aren't capped.

I agree.

The best way to make use of the YA (in my opinion) is to recycle players as much as possible. Get through as many players as possible to see their caps which means letting go of players quickly. More lottery tickets = better chance of a home run.

Personally ... any player who yellow caps their first skill under 40 (so would red at under 45) is probably out the door immediately.

Holding on to any academy players who don't have at least 90 combined speed/strength or at least 48/49 strength (with decent TW and acceptable intelligence) is just clogging up room and making it less likely to hit a home run. Obviously players with 50 Int and/or useful traits get taken into account but you get the jist.

Age is key here though (just in case any newbies do ever read this!)

It's pointless bagging cheap players from the TM to find their caps if those players are already 19+, because they are likely to be 2-3 seasons behind where they need to be in terms of other skills.

With 16 and 17 year olds (and maybe some better 18 year olds) this is a worthwhile way of filling the YA - they can be cut early if their caps are too low, and replaced cheaply and quickly before any time is wasted on other training.

I must stress though that we are on the rookie forum, and this is really not a wise tactic for very new teams to employ. Once the stadium is built, the money is coming in, coaches are YA are in place, and the manager has some grasp of what to look for, only then consider attempting this strategy.

I did this as a rookie and I've never been anywhere close to having financial issues. I purchased ~80 players my first season (mostly at 5K). As long as you set a cap (like 25K) on your purchases, and focus most of your finances on your stadium, you pull in a TON of money considering the cost of your initial roster. I think it would be boring not to buy any players at all.
