Hello, and welcome to Brick's Picks! In the absence of jack6's usual column, Block of Granite, I, Brickington, will cover this year's college football season. Forgive me for being a little late, but assume I wrote an article, and everyone whom I picked to win, came up short. In this issue, we'll recap last week.

Opening weekend did not disappoint, with a close game between Rutgers and Washington State punctuating College Football's triumphant return to our television sets, and our internet streams. After that Thursday night game, this writer was ready to be immersed in Saturday's football games.

Rather than talk a bunch of nonsense about who did what, let's put up three lists to represent what happened last weekend:

MOST OVERRATED TEAMS OF WEEK ONE (Or, the Preseason Top 25 Wall of Shame):

1. #9 South Carolina (Blown out 52-28 vs. #21 Texas A&M)
2. #7 UCLA (Offense could only score 1 TD in 28-20 win vs. Virginia)
3. #16 Clemson (Clemsoning the game away 21 - 45 vs. #12 Georgia in horrific fashion)
4. #2 Alabama (Won 33-23 vs. West Virginia; QBs were clearly overhyped)
5. #5 Ohio State (Won 34-17; gave up nearly 400 rushing yards vs. Navy's triple option)
6. #23 North Carolina (Gave up 29 points vs. an FCS school in 56-29 win against Liberty)
7. #25 Washington (Barely snuck by in 17-16 win vs. Hawaii)
8. #18 Ole Miss (Bo Wallace, the Rebels QB is still very INT prone)

Honorable mention goes to the unranked Iowa State of the Big 12 for handing North Dakota State (of FCS fame) their fifth straight win versus an FBS team.

TEAMS TO LOOK OUT FOR (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)

1. Utah
For those who don't follow the Pac-12, last season Utah looked like a very tough team, with a high powered offense, at least, until their star QB, Tyler Wilson got injured. Even without him, they managed to upset Stanford late last year. The Utes are a more mature team now, and with Tyler Wilson as the signal caller once again, teams should be careful not to underestimate them.

2. Penn State
Despite the sanctions put on the embattled school, Christian Hackenberg leads the Nittany Lions in an effort to play spoiler to everybody else. While amongst college footballers in the know, Hackenberg has always been considered good, his performance on Saturday in Ireland showed how much he has progressed. Let it be known that Hackenberg is quite probably a top ten QB in college football.

3. #17 Notre Dame
While normal logic would cause folks to ignore the results of the Notre Dame game vs. Rice, Rice's football team won ten games last season. Notre Dame blew them out 48-17. The Irish have been on the bubble for a while, waiting to be validated as a top program again. They made the national championsip game not too long ago, but it could be argued that it was a fluke, especially with Golson's rather suspect play that year. This season, expect a reinvigorated Irish team.
