Lawrence Taylor Award - Team of the year
Until the conference game, it was pretty hard to decide which team really had the best season. With Michigan loss on Tuesday, only one team is left undefeated: the Baltimore Ravens! They did not face a very difficult schedule during the regular season, but they still manage to dominate largely teams likes LSS, the Ducks or Bautzen. But most importantly, they were able to come back from an eleven points deficit in the conference final to add a new piece in their trophy room.

In the talk: Michigan State Spartans, Munich Runners, Växjö Gladiators AFC

Don Shula Award - Manager of the year:
This year the manager of the year was not managing the best team. The reward goes to Ravencorp from Växjö Gladiators AFC after their historical Bowl qualification. Placed in the most difficult division, they won it with a great 13-3 record. Then they crushed the Warriors in the play-off division round, dominated the Cats the round after to finish with an outstanding upset against the hyper favorite Michigan State Spartans. As a reminder, the team was not even qualified for the PO last season. Impressive!

In the talk: PJRavens, Spartans11, Buziano

Payton Manning Award - Comeback of the year:
What a new start for Wasteland Wolves! The triple AC East champion was outstanding this season for his comeback in Seadevils 1! He posted a 9-7 record while facing twice two 80+ rated teams. He even managed to pull a win against Naprzod! He managed to build a decent team in a short time and defeated teams with several seasons spent in the league. Impressive!

In the talk: Marife-Lacion

Nick Foles Award - Most improved team of the year:
The Alpin Ducks kept the award this season. They improved from 8-8 to 12-4 and reached the PO for the first time in 4 seasons. They posted 3 upsets including a first win against La Spezia Sprugoleans and were very close to qualify for the Division Round.

In the talk: Schrödinger Cats, Växjö Gladiators AFC, La Spezia Sprugoleans

JaMarcus Russel award - Disapointment of the year:

This award was unfortunatly a no brainer. Paris Rioters went from 5-11 to 2-14 this season. More than the record, the team showed no progress and even lost games they could (shold?) have won against Wasteland, the Beast and Crocs.

In the talk: Naprzód Marsz!, Idrosburghi Verona

Music City Miracle award - Game of the year:
This year game of the year is the AC final conference Växjö Gladiators AFC @ Michigan State Spartans. Why? Because first it is an upset. Then because it is a cruel come back. And finaly because it is an OT win. Indeed with 10 minutes left to play, MSS was 14 points ahead and decided to go for it on a 4&19 on the opponent 27. A FG would probably have given him the win. Instead and after MSS turnover on downs, the Gladiators scored twice while MSS punted once. In OT, MSS was not able to move the ball much and the Gladiators scored a 42 yards FG.

Mark Sanchez Award - WTF of the year:
The WTF of the year will be a game this season. If you read the forum, you already know the one I am talking about. Of course this is Naprzód Marsz! @ Wasteland Wolves. Not that the game was impressive, but the Wolves defeating Marsz 16 to 24 just did not make sense. The rating gap was 21 and the Wolves offensive playbook was pretty well covered. Play this game 20 times, Naprzod would win it 19. And yet...

Jim Brown Award - Rookie team of the year:
We had a couple of rookies this season and 3 of them did very good posting at least 7 wins. Despite not having the best record at the end of the seaon (7-9), the award goes to the Old England Redcoats without too much of a hesitation. Yes the Wasteland Wolves defeated Naprzod Marsz, but the Redcoasts defeated Idrosburghi Verona, Rainbow Warriors and... the Wolves. I do not remember any true rookie doing better.

In the talk: Wasteland Wolves, Croxley Crocs

Jean François Tuqiri Award - Best QB

The competition for best QB this season was intense! Four players were rated between 10 and 9.8. At the end it is Alexander Bäckström from the Gladiators who got the perfect score thanks to his 379 yards and 4 TD per game. His low amount of INT (5) and sacks (11) helped him keeping the edge over the rest of the pack. Behind him we find the double threat (at least for part of the season) and soon to retire Aleksej Hofmann. The veteran from Munich would even have got the award without those 3 ugly fumbles while running the ball (619yd, 3 TD). He graded at 9.9 finaly, few hundrenths better than Uasilaa Vesikula who posted 48 TD in only 12 games and threw the least INT (3) among 1000+ plays QB. Finaly we have in 4th the leader in TD passing (69) Takashi Okui who did not make it to the top mostly because of his 6 INT and 21 sacks.

Le'ts note that with the new formula system, QB of the year last season was Lothar Sommer, not Uasilaa Vesikula.

Guille Picazo Award - Best Defender

The best defender of the year only played 12 games, but 12 games that mattered. The 5 stars veteran from the Spartans Abdullah Al Jabri posted double digit sacks, 3 INT, forces and recovered fumbles and a TD. This is enough to grade better than Nikoloz Daushvili (38 TFL, 12 sacks, 2 Fumble TD) and Agustín Díaz (13 INT, 4TD) who both played 16 games with some easy ones. However it is not enough to match last year performance from Craig Harper and his 17 INT, 5 TD and 6 sacks.

Nunzio Manfredi Award - Best Rusher

For this first award, there was not any suspense. One rusher was way above the others all season long with 126 yards and 2.1 TD per game. I am of course talking about Kirill Vdovin from Munich. The second rusher, Pascual Vargas from the Cats, only got a 6.4 grade. It worth noting that the fullback was only a short down and goalline rusher unlike the bell cow Vdonin.

Marcelo Larkin Award - Best Receiver

If Richard Nye from the Spartans was the best TD machine this season, it was Percy Sturgeon from the Gladiators who dominated both catches numbers and yardages. He reached a great 2300+ yards with still the scond most scores (19). At the end his season is rated 8.8/10 as there is still room to do better when we compare to the tremendous Winfred Cloud season last year (24 TD, 2400+ yards)

See you tomorrow for the new Guille Picazo award.

A Google Sheet accessible to all will be available by the end of the week. You will be able to use a filter view in order to play with all the data from around 800 players. The idea will be to use the same file season after season with a season filter so you can compare/order the grades and data between any team and by division or conference.

Kirill is quite emotional about this award in what was supposed to be his last season. Now he has decided to add another season to his career. Big thanks !

It seems impossibile to me that my TAL 3.5* QB Uasilaa Vesikula that I bought spending a dizzying amount of 1 Millinon with VIS POS PAS capped at 45.5 performs better of the STAR Takashi Okui that all of us would like to have.

Yet he statisticly does for 2 seasons in row. Okui was still 4* XP last time I scouted him. When he will be 5*, I guess the trend will change.
