Fair enough.
Could we still theorize about what happened? |

My theory:
The ball can not be fumbled at the goal line as Pete said. So it was fumbled "for inches" as it happens for interceptions close to the endzone. The engine may read it as a fraction of a yard, let me say 0.1 yard. So the ball was recovered at the 0.1 yd line and that is the reason it was not computed as a TD (as the ball did not reach the "0 yd line"). After the recover there are 2 options as Dumba said: a return or a failed return. As the game log shows it was a failed return so the ball stays at the place it was recovered at the "0.1 yd line". After this outcome, the ball was positioned for the next play. But we do not have a 0.1 yd line in RZA, only integers. So it was rounded to 0 yd. Which was probably understood as a safety by the engine (ball on possession of team A inside their own endzone). Now it is Dumba's turn. Surprise us! |

You stole my theory 😂😂😂 I wanted to write that the ball was fumbled at 0.3 yards to goalline, defense recovered it and defense at that time becomes offense, it was tackled at the same spot and engine had to round it to closest full number that this time is 0 yards line (goalline) which resulted in safety. So there is no surprise for you from me 😀😀😀 Last edited on 2021-09-25 16:30:51 by Dumbarajko |

sorry to disappoint you, but stats are always rounded up from the ball carriers perspective.

The ball was fumbled outside the endzone, but bobbled into the endzone using every bit of momentum it still had to reach the defenders outstretched arms in the endzone?
