It looked a tough draw for the Sea Devils clan, and so it has proven to be with many a fallen Sea Soldier in the first knockout round

(Fire 1) FARGO KNIGHTS @ Manta Rays (W)

FIRE 1 Fargo head into the game with The Rays as favorites, but the Australians have refound their form lately. Balandis finds a touchdown in the last minute to sneak a win 24-22.

Ghost of Bautzen (W) @ Konjarnik HighTowers (L)

The Battle of the Sea Devils ended with a Bautzen win in overtime after Callahan (DW) misses a 56 yard field goal. Uchiyama (GoB) made no mistake on a 53 yard try.

(Elite) HEREFORD HAWKS @ Minnesota Foxes (L)

The Foxes put up a good fight against the Elite Hereford Hawks, the end of the game ending in chaos. The Foxes punted the ball away to a chorus of boos from the Minnesota faithful, just 3 points behind on their own 48 with 21 seconds to go. To add insult to injury The Hawks through a last second 87 yard touchdown pass, just to show the Foxes what can happen if you go for it. Minnesota P.D were called in to calm a certain section of Foxes fans whose frustration boiled over at Ryan Teg Stadium as tensions ran high. In the end Chad Thurman came out onto the field in order to plea with the Foxes fans to calm down after missles were thrown towards the Foxes bench.

(Monarchs 1) TOKHA TIGERS @ Derbent Convicts (L)

The Convicts put up a great effort against favorites Tokha Tigers before succumbing 35-29. The Convicts were behind from the 1st quater 14-3 and never really recovered.

(Monarchs 1) RUHRPOTT MINERS @ Terrifying Hamsters (L)

80 Rated Miners were always going to have too much for the Imrpoving Hamsters. As always it was a valiant effort, but its been a tough end to the season for Hamster fans who look set to miss out of SD Playoffs also

(Admirals 1) NANAIMO BLUEBACKS @ Hamburg Sealions (L)

Another top rated side and another tough draw for the Sea Devils. This time is was the turn of The Sealions to put a brave effort. Alas it was in vain. Down 24-14 at the half The Lions didnt quite have enough to come back in a shootout. Despite winning the 3rd and 4th quarter the Germans went down 41-38

(Monarchs 1) TRNAVO SAINTS @ Rome Centurians (L)

The Monarchs took their 3rd Sea Devils scalp with an expected heavy victory over the Italian outfit. Rated 81.4 by RZA experts this was always going to be a one sided affair.

(Elite) ROCKABILLY KINGS @ Constanta Ravens (L)

Captain Sea Devil Radu was drawn against Elite royalty in the Rockabilly KINGS. If anyone could take down an Elite opponent it was the Ravens, however it wasnt to be, The Kings taking control just before half time and running out 23-14 winners.

(Dragons 1) BUDAPEST JANITORS @ Sheffield Wednesday (W)

Wednesdays Defence held The Janitors to under 200 yards in a expected 44-17 win

(Claymore 1) QUACK ATTACK @ Rome Torresina (L)

In another tough draw Rome Torresina dropped out to one of the leading Dragons teams 44-6

Statement from Owner 0verpowerd on the Silver Foxes loss in the SC Playoffs:

"We are not here to scream at ourselves or others on the unfortunate close loss, you saw what happened, do you really think we could have kicked a field goal from our territory, none of the less be a laughing stock for going for it again, and again, and again, and failing again, and again, and again. I don't want to hear blame on our players, they gave it their best shot. We have promising guys and a bright future, today was today and we can learn from that. I am surprised that you didn't think we wouldn't win, because at the end of the day, they are the better team, and we are still learning. If I could ask for one season where everyone can be quiet and let us work, I would ask now. Even though we are losing Wyman and Gentile to retirement, Woodworth, Otto, Biji, and Sandeep to TM soon, Chad might retire after S63, and more and more losses we might find on our way, we won't give up, I won't give up, not until after our name is driving into that trophy, even if it takes us 10 seasons. Today is just the beginning of a new challenge, a new hope. We have new guys we will draft, we have a promising new LB, a promising new season, and, some new support. I want you to look at this moment and take a look back and say: 'what do we do now?', well what I would do is to keep moving forward and believe! See you all in S62, the start of a new hope."

SDSC was able to hunt down Chon Tan, Head Coach of the SEA LIONS, to make a statement about the still atrocious passing defense that the team seemingly cannot get out of. Even veteran players like Kazuhiko Enomoto seemed lost, and especially on the last play, which won the Bluebacks the ballgame, they played quite the vanilla defense instead of defending the goal line with every man.

Tan, of course, was not happy to see the SDSC-people again, and kept it short:

„Yes, that one stings. But we’re happy with the fact that we even came back to win the game despite being down 10 after the break. So we’re on the right track. And on your assumption that we have a passing defense problem: Thank you for pointing this out, we will try to work on that. I have the fullest confidence that you’ll see a very different and more efficient pass defending squad in the seasons to come. Thank you.“

And off he went, further cementing his image as one of the more shrewd head coaches in the Sea Devils league.

5PM MATCHES

KMN Mandolorians (W)@ PAXTANG BLACK PANTHERS (Monarchs 1)

The King of Sea Devil football managed to get some revenge on the Monarchs who had knocked out 3 from our division earlier in the day.

6PM MATCHES - With just 4 teams through from the first half of the matches we turn to the 6pm teams, most of which are away from home. Could they add a decent amount of Sea Devils into the next round?

(Thunder 1) PARIS GUARDIANS @ Constanta Sailors (L)

No easy tie for The Sailors who came up against usual Elite Member Paris Guardians. Although they may be slumming it for now in Thunder 1 they are formidable opponents. The Sailors at home though - noone would usual bet against that, not even Timmy the Greek. In a bizarre lopsided 2nd quarter however Paris scored 24 of their 31 points to edge out The Sailors 31-21.

OLIVET COMETS (Thunder 1) @ Glasgow Tigers (W)

A comfortable and expected win for the Scottish Cats

Social Distance Runners (L) @ BLACK DRAGONS (Elite)

Another one of our BIG GUNS fell to Elite opposition as the 1st round draw continued to but the hurtin on The Sea Devils teams. Some believe this is retribution from the RZA Gods for stealing other divisions teams. Despite leading at Half Time 13-12 The Runners failed to add anymore points in the 2nd half, eventually coming up short 22-13.

St Pauli Packers (L) @ CIRANO (Elite)

The Packers spread the play amongst the squad as 3 QBs appeared against Cirano. The result was the same however whoever was taking the snaps, as The Packers threw 6 Interceptions in a heavy loss. With hmph concentrating soley on his Sea Devil Bowl push it is likely there was little concern for this tie.

Vancouver Corsairs (L) @ SFNINER8

The big Ls keep coming for the Sea Devils as Corsairs put up a great fight against the Elite SFNINER losing 27-20.

Devon Warriors (W) @ CHICAGO CUBS (Claymore 1)

Devon got the Win for The Sea Devils is a comfortable victory over former Sea Devils alum Chicago Cubs. The Warriors were stronger through the air with Derrick Andrew passing for 270 yards and 2 TDs.

Michigan Weasels (W) @ ALPRAUSH APAKAS (Admirals 1)

The Weasels dont seem to be Traders anymore, but i am sure they would trade a early Super Cup loss for a shot at Elite next season. Stabler may have one eye on the Sea Devils Playoffs but he didnt disappoint here, knocking off a more than competitive 80 rated Apakas side in their own back yard. It took however a late Tocuhdown to get them there, as, down by 2 with 31 seconds remain Terence Bolt found Killian Schuster in the end zone. The Weasels are looking strong!!

Mystics (L) @ VENOM (Admirals 1)

In a games with almost as few points as their are letters in their team names the Mystics fell to a Q2 salvo from Venom. Scoring all their 14 points in Q2 the Mystics could only respond with 2 second half field goals.

Bergen Brusiers (W) @ SP NIGHTSTORMS (Admirals 1)

The Bruisers have built fantastically this season and look a force to be reckoned with once more. A comfortable win where they led throughout against a strong Admirals side sends them through to the next round.

SUPER CUP 2ND ROUND

Just 8 teams will carry the Sea Devils fight in the SuperCup after a tough draw in round 1 for the division.

Those teams are Manta Rays, Ghost of Bautzen, Sheffield Wednesday, KMN Mandolorians, Glasgow Tigers, Devons Warriors, Michigan Weasels, and Bergen Bruisers.

Hopefully the draw has been kinder to our surviving flock...

Game 1 - Ghost of Bautzen @ Michigan Weasels

In a cruel twist the first game is two of the Sea Devils heavyweight survivors, ensuring one wont make it past this stage. Closely matched on the field, with The Weasels just having the edge on paper these two have met 3 times in the past with The Ghost winning all 3, the last being in Season 58. We are 3 seasons further on now, and it will be a Weasel victory this time out.

Prediction - Bautzen 21-28 Weasels

Game 2 - Blatna Jaguars @ Sheffield Wednesday

On paper this should be a banker Owls win with Wednesday sporting a better OVR and ELO rating. Thats not always how RZA works, but its difficult to bet against Wednesday making the next round. These two have met once before, a 23-19 Wednesday win in Season 59. The Jaguars knocked a BOT out in Round 1 and will have no Playoff Distractions. Still this should be a lock.

Prediction - Jaguars 7-35 Wednesday

Game 3 - Manta Rays @ Smokin Aces

Claymore side Smoking Aces will welcome The Manta Rays to The Deck for this SuperCup game. On paper it is a close affair hoever The Aces will have the Claymore Playoffs as a distraction. With a £5 MILLION wage bill dwarfing The Rays £3m and homefield advantage the Aces go into this as favorites.

The Rays however have been bang in form recently and with no Sea Devil playoff likely, im calling a Rays win!

Prediction - Rays 17-14 Aces

Game 4 - KMN Mandolorians @ Wrexham Exiles

Two monster Elite Sides clash as King of Sea Devil Football HH/KMN faces off against the pride of Wales StuartW. Rumours that Ryan Reynolds has been putting money into the Exiles on the side continue to rage and could distract Wrexham in their first game ever against the Mandolorians. The Exiles have struggled in The Elite this season, whilst The Madolorians will add a 12th NC East Elite title. If HHKMN plays the full strength of the Mandos Squad, The Exiles will be out.

Prediction - KMN Mandolorians 28-7 Exiles

Game 5 - Sydney Sea Eagles @ Glasgow Tigers

Another Elite clash will see the Sydney Sea Eagles travel around the world to Scotland to play the Glasgow Tigers. Another tough draw for the Sea Devils. These two have met in The Super Cup before, last season, where The Eagles triumphed over the Tigers 34-23. Expect it to be a little closer this time, and although The Eagles are probably favorites i fancy The Tigers to deliver a BIG win backed by a intimidating Scottish crowd.

Prediction - Eagles 34-35 Tigers

Game 6 - Bergen Bruisers @ San Diego Blitz

There maybe some truth in the conspiracy theory that the MYSTICAL powers that rule RZA are sabotaging The Sea Devils this season.

The San Diego Blitz. Cmon! These two have met in the SuperCup on 3 occasions, each time The Bruisers have put up a good account of themselves before falling to inevitable defeat. The Blitz are an ever present Elite member - something not to be sniffed at, and have won the Super Cup 12 times, most recently in Season 59.

Good luck Bergen!

Prediction - Brusiers 17 - 42 Blitz

Game 7 - Devon Warriors @ London Silverbacks

Another tough draw sees the first ever meeting between Devon Warriors and London Silverbacks. I wonder if Devon, myself, Scorchio and EAMCI will get together in London for a few beers after this game. (edit - probably not as apparently the London Silverbacks are Canadian)

Anyway... With a stronger rating and homefield advantage The London Silverbacks are slight favorites going into this game, but i have faith in Devon to get the job done.

Prediction - Warriors 24-21 Silverbacks

FINAL WEEK …

Welcome to the Sea Devils Sports Centre – today we’re breaking down the final round of games. Who’s in? Who’s out? And who’s shaking it all about?

I’ll be joined later by fans and players from some of this week’s biggest clashes, but first, let’s dive into the AC Conference. What are the permutations? Who can still make the playoffs?

Number 1 Seed

Constanta Ravens (15-0) – Locked in as the top seed. Unstoppable. Uncatchable. Untouchable.

Number 2 Seed

Konjarnik HighTowers @ Black Knights
Terrifying Hamsters @ Ghost of Bautzen

Konjarnik must match or better Bautzen’s result in the final week. With a +75 point differential advantage, a win would guarantee them the 2nd seed. Lose, and things get nervy.

Number 3 Seed
Whichever of Konjarnik or Bautzen doesn’t land at #2 will settle here.

Number 4 Seed

Rome Centurians @ Kladno Ravens (BOT)
Constanta Ravens @ Rome Torresina

The former Kladno Ravens, now a BOT team, are virtually locked in at #4. Only Rome Torresina can stop them, but with Constanta standing in their way, it would take nothing short of a miracle… or a shady backroom deal to make sure no BOT makes the playoffs.

Number 5 & 6 Seeds

Konjarnik HighTowers @ Black Knights
Badalona Cheetahs @ Devon Warriors
Terrifying Hamsters @ Ghost of Bautzen

The Terrifying Hamsters’ loss at Storm last week has wrecked their playoff hopes. They’re a game behind Devon, and with Devon almost certain to crush Badalona, the Hamsters’ season is as good as over – even if they shock Bautzen.

The Black Knights are safe, but their seeding isn’t. Devon is 51 points adrift of Knights for #5, but expect a 40+ blowout vs. Badalona whilst Konjarnik are expected to beat Knights. All this means that the Knights are likely to take #6 – and with it, a brutal Wildcard matchup against Bautzen or HighTowers, rather than the BOT gift-wrapped #5 slot.

We caught up with players and fans ahead of the big games :

Im joined at this time by HighTowers Quarterback Derrick Taylor :

Reporter: “Derrick, big game against the Black Knights this week. How’s the team feeling?”
Derrick: “Confident, but not complacent. We know what’s at stake – that #2 seed is huge for us. The Knights are no pushover, but if we execute like we have all season, we’ll get it done.”
Reporter: “Are you thinking about Bautzen’s result at all?”
Derrick: [Laughs] “We can’t control Bautzen. We control us. If we take care of business, the rest doesn’t matter.”

Yesterday Evening we caught up with ‘Big Tony’ Romano – Rome Torresinas Official Radio Commentator

Reporter: “Tony, Rome Torresina’s playoff hopes hang by a thread. Any belief left?”
Big Tony: “Belief? Look, we’re playing Constanta. They’re 15-0. I love my team, but we’d need divine intervention. If we somehow do it, though? I’ll be running down Via Nazionale in a Ravens jersey!”
Reporter: “Is there anything that can be done?”
Big Tony: “I've spoken to my cousin Vinny - thats all i can say ”

Live from Serbia we have Joaquim Ribeiro – Devon Warriors RB

Reporter: “Joaquim, a difficult season for the team, you are so used to dominating. How important is your game this week?
Ribeiro “It’s huge. Facing a BOT team in the Wildcard is practically a bye week. We’re not taking Badalona lightly, but we know what this game means. We want that advantage.”
Reporter: “Message to your fans?”
Ribeiro: “Get loud, get proud – we’re taking this momentum all the way to the Divisional round.”

We sent our roving reporter to Darsins local bar to interview Black Knights’ Superfan and bar owner BIGJIM in the Heartland Black Knights country

Reporter: “Jim, your pub’s the unofficial home of the Black Knights’ faithful. What’s the atmosphere like?”
Jim: “Electric. Every pint pulled this week has come with playoff predictions. Some say we’ll shock Konjarnik, others are just happy we’re in. Either way, it’s going to be standing-room only on game night.”

Final Week

Lets be honest the AC Conference is tough as all hell, with 8 teams all fighting for a playoff place and more teams below that who will challenge in future seasons. The AC is strong and will become the Conference from Hell in future seasons.

Heres who making waves in Season 61...

Number 1 Seed

Minnesota Silver Foxes @ Michigan Weasels
Social Distance Runners @ Manta Rays

Locked in? Michigan Weasels are unbeaten with Social Distance Runners 1 game behind. The Weasels are expected to win - but those Foxes have been known to spring a surprise or two over the last few seasons. Should the unthinkable happen The Runners still have to overturn a 69 point deficit. It just aint gonna happen.

Number 2 Seed

Minnesota Silver Foxes @ Michingan Weasels
Social Distance Runners @ Manta Rays
St Pauli Packers @ Riga Smokers

I expect all 3 of the top 3 will win their games, ensuring the seedings stay the same. The most likely loser would be The Runners against Manta Rays, should that happen St Pauli would take the Number 2 seed.

Number 3 Seed

Social Distance Runners @ Manta Rays
St Pauli Packers @ Riga Smokers
Sheffield Wednesday @ Copenhagen Chargers

Both should win, leaving Packers 3rd and Wednesday 4th. As discussed, a Runners loss could see them drop to 3. An unlikely Smokers win against St Pauli would lift Wednesday to 3rd. As it is i suspect everything will pretty much stay the same.

Number 4 Seed

St Pauli Packers @ Riga Smokers
Sheffield Wednesday @ Copenhagen Chargers

Both will likely win leaving Wednesday the daunting task of stopping Air Force Canadas Vancouver Corsairs.

Number 5 Seed

Vancouver Corsairs locked in

Number 6 Seed

Downriver Seals @ Bergen Bruisers
Hamburg Baltic Dogs @ Hamburg Sealions
Social Distance Runners @ Manta Rays

This could have been interesting - but The Seals dont have the quality on the field to prevent The Bruisers making the playoffs, and a likely battle against St Pauli Packers.

St Pauli are at the centre of this playoff battle. They could go as high as #2 or drop as low as #4... Ewald Konig – St Pauli Packers leading Receiver had this to say :

Reporter: “Ewald, Riga Smokers to close out the season. What’s the mindset?”
Ewald: “Hit hard, finish fast. We’re not looking past Riga – every team in this conference can punch you in the mouth. But we like where we’re at. If we climb to #2? Even better. If not? We’ll take anyone, anywhere.”

With the Bergen Bruisers set to comfortably finish in the #6 position, completing a fantastic turnaround from a disappointing Season 60, we spoke to local celebrity, comedian, and lifelong Bruisers superfan Big Mo:

Reporter: “Big Mo, Bruisers just need to get past the Downriver Seals to clinch. Feeling good?”
Big Mo: “Feeling great. Unless we somehow forget how to tackle, we’re in. And if we get St Pauli first round? They better pack a lunch – and dinner – because this Bruisers team is hungry!”

Reporter: “It’s been quite the turnaround this year after last season’s struggles. What’s changed?”
Big Mo: “Heart. Pure and simple. Last year, we looked like we’d rather be anywhere else – fishing, knitting, tax seminars… anywhere but the field. This year? Different story. These guys hit like freight trains and celebrate like they mean it. It’s fun again – and that’s dangerous for the rest of the league.”

Reporter: “What’s the mood like in Bergen heading into the playoffs?”
Big Mo: “Electric. You walk into my pub, The Laughing Seal, and it’s wall-to-wall Bruisers flags. People are planning playoff parties already. Kids wearing face paint to school. Even my grandma’s got a Bruisers scarf – and she didn’t know what football was six months ago!”

Reporter: “Some say St Pauli might be too big a hurdle in the Wildcard round. What’s your take?”
Big Mo: “Look, St Pauli’s tough – no denying that. But they put their pads on the same as we do. And here’s the thing – when the Bruisers play loose, with nothing to lose? We’re scary. Plus, the last time they came to Bergen, we had ‘em sweating. We’re not just making up the numbers – we’re here to shock a few people.”

Reporter: “And if the Bruisers pull off that shock?”
Big Mo: [Grins] “Then I’m taking my comedy show on the road – to their stadium – and opening with, ‘How’s the offseason treating you?’”

and finally we caught up with a Canadian from that team from Canada...

Reporter: “You’re locked at #5. How do you approach Week 17?”
Canadian: “With attitude. Locked in doesn’t mean laid back. We want to scare whoever lands at #4. Wednesday? St Pauli? Doesn’t matter. They’ll know we’re coming.
