That would depend on the defense and the defense calculation.
If 4 WR would eliminate some possible tacklers, it might work.
But I still not understand the defense calculation, so .... I don't know.

But I had lot's of game during testing where I ran with shotgun formation and gained yards.

FB is blocking on forward passes

FB is not blocking on rush or screen passes

There is "NO" protection by FB on rush plays (yet).

In the Defense Playbook you can fill the following sliders:

defense playbook only have
quarter
on down
yards to go
Distance Goalline
score
on formation
use pass formation
use rush formation
prefer

I don´t understand the sliders "use pass formation" and "use rush formation". In the defense I only choose one formation normaly. Why I can choose 2 different formations in the game for the defense?

That is the pass/rush expectation...the defense tries to find out ifd the offense is going for pass or rush. You can set one formation for each type, and if the defense is expecting rush, it will put the rush defense on field. If no expectation is possible, the "prefer" settings kicks in.

So when i choose the wrong - i say Big-I expect rush

And opponent plays Big-I with pass

-> my defense will lineup my rush setting

So why i have to put pass setting for Big-I - is a reason why?

Example: given rule is big-I: 5-3-3 on rush, dime on pass, expect rush

The defense brain tries to figure out which formation of the opponents offense is for pass or rush. Let's say your opp is using Big-I and rush, all the time. Your D will learn this and use rush defense on it. If he would use BIG-I on pass and rush and the number of plays on pass and rush is quite equal, the "prefer" settings kicks in. If your opp is going with Big-I and pass more than Big-I and rush, your defense will switch to pass defense...

Hope I could explain that well enough

Now I understand the defense rules in the playbook. Thx.

But i´ve found a conflict in the offense playbook vs the match set option.

in the match set you can choose any formation for every down and in the playbook too.

What is the result, when for example the playbook says Big-I and the option in the match set says Shotgun?

There can't be a conflict, this is not possible...

1. If a playbook rule was found, use it and stop thinking
2. If matchsettings were found, use them and stop thinking
3. If default matchsettings were found, use them and stop thinking
4. Go "random"

From 1 to 4, notice the "stop thinking" statements"

In your example: BIG-I, since part 1 of our question was answered successfully
