Hi everyone, I just discovered this game and signed up for a team. I've done the initial license tasks and followed the suggestions in the intro mail from the game. I have a sponsor. But I still have a lot of questions that the manual doesn't seem to answer, or answer with any detail. Here are a few that are pressing:

1. I see there is a draft coming up soon. I've been working to scout as many of the players as possible... but with only a "level 1" scout, can I trust my scouting reports at all? Or is that a total waste of time because they are going to be too inaccurate to rely on? I read that with a 1 scout he could be off +/- 5 points on his skill evaluations (correct?) What about his evaluations of the talent level? If my scout says a certain player in the draft is a 4.5 star talent, can I trust that? Or could that be off by +/- half a star? A full star? More?

2. Having played other sports manager games online, I know often they are as much "economic sims" as they are "sports sims." Right now after the money from doing the license tasks and the bonus for picking a team in a less-populated division, I have about $10 million. It seems the prevailing advice is the expand your stadium as a first task. Fine. But by how much? Should I invest almost all $10 million in that right away (like, say, buy as many seats as $8 million or so could buy right now?) Or just invest a couple million now and save the rest of the cash for other expenses? And when expanding, understanding I need to try to keep the ratio of reg/exec/VIP of 100/10/1, does it matter whether I expand one of the two existing sections vs. add an endzone section?

3. One of the tasks the license suggested was to go to my players list, and hit the "reposition players" button. I did that, but some of the places players got slotted seems really...weird. Things like a guy with the special ability for kicking being put as a FB, or a guy with one of the highest blocking skills on my team being put as a kick returner. So my question is, can I really trust this "repositioning" done by the game or have I basically screwed up my team by doing it?

4. Speaking of positions, when looking at that section of the manual, all it gives is descriptions of those positions and their functions in "real life" football. It doesn't say anything (that I saw, at least) about how the game engine actually uses player skills in positions. Some things are obvious, but a lot of it isn't. Does a LB use "vision"? Is the performance of a kicker/punter impacted by anything other than "strength" and either kicking/punting? For any player, does "intelligence" impact their game play or only impact, say, their rate of growing in team chemistry?

Okay that's enough for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more the deeper I get in to this. Many thanks for any answers anyone can provide!

My advice with the money you have is, to get a level 20 scout and use your remaining supporter account time (if you did not already invest in a year long supporter account) to download the list of the players.
Then you have an exact table of all the values.
Otherwise for level 1, only the skills are a bit off, talent is exact as far as I remember, as is INT, TW and other fixed values.

You started basically in the off-season and have to get through to the first games in the next season.
I guess you get also the media center payout (which is free for the next 2 seasons, so don't invest next season at season start), which should give you enough money to support your roster. If that is the case, buy as much as possible in seats.
Don't by coaches, don't buy players. Check your forecast under Front Office. If this is green already for this season and next season, all is OK, otherwise you might want to keep some reserve.
And make friendlies on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday. Brings in money.

To be honest, this relocation button is fine for the start, but better do it by yourself.
Look into my guide under the blog-section, it includes some tips for that and all other stuff. Lots of tips, actually.

Same here, look into the guide. The rest is speculations. Nobody knows how exactly the positions are using the skills, except Peter himself.

I had a similar post a month ago when my friends and I joined. (Also from Chicago, and you joined our same league. let the conspiracy nuts go wild!) Reading Jack's guide really cleared a lot up. Highly recommended. You are joining at a good time since you'll be able to draft some studs to get you started for next year.

Good luck!

Many thanks for the replies. Yes, that blog guide was quite helpful! I feel a lot better in terms of understanding what I need to do. Looking forward to the season ahead and getting to know some of the other managers in the game.

regarding the stadium, it is better to add a new section first, to add more seats, because if you upgrade an existing side you will lose income while that side is upgrading.

Okay, a couple more questions...

1. If I understand, there are caps on the more position-based skills (tackling, passing, etc.) based on a player's talent for a given player, are those caps the same for every such skill? In other words, is his cap for tackling, blocking, passing, etc. exactly the same? Or different?

2. Does playing in games have any (direct) impact on how quickly a player gains training points? (I understand playing in games increases experience, and experience boosts training. That's not what I’m asking about. I’m asking if actual game experience translates to faster skill gains.)

3. Regarding the draft, each player has an assigned position. What is the basis for that? Is it the game's analysis of his best position *as his skills stand right now*? His best position based on his physical skill caps? Something else? Totally random?

Thanks!

In respect to Question No1 the answer is Yes the cap is the same for the skills. Strength, Speed and Agility can all be different to each other and the rest of the skills.
As for No 2 & 3 I will let others answer them as that is still a mystery to me.

For what I know, no.

I would say yes….
you can use it as an advice but you are not forced to keep his suggested positions at all…
You will learn playing, how to put a player in the correct position or better where his skills will fit at their best in your way to play.
For example a draft player has position OL, a good starting BLK and STR skill values, and his speed is still low but uncapped.
You can choose to leave him as OL where speed is not a primary skill and develop him or training speed hoping to reach a very high value and change his position to FB... or TE.
Depends of what player you need, if you like use heavily a FB or TE in your offensive formation, and so on...

Only to add that the physical skills (SPE STR AGI) cap are unknown
When you reach 5 skill point below the cap, a yellow ! will warn you
When you reach the cap a red ! will appear.
