Exactly, we will all end up infected with Covid.
It's about that when this happens our body is prepared so that the consequences are as mild as possible and that the health system of each country does not collapse.

My 70 years old father is recovering from cancer during witch he was in an aplasia state (lost all his immune system). He got Delta while being fully vaccinated barely a throat ache.

My 84 years old grand father (mother side) has what we call the miner decease (silicosis) which caused him to lose 70% of his pulmonary capacity. He got Omicron while fully vaccinated flu state for 4 days but avoided hospitalisation.

We do not know what would have happened without the vaccine. But for sure I am glad they followed the science and not the opinion of those stupid conspiracy theorists or hippies on internet.

On a side note, even with the highly contagious omicron (more than measle, which is one of the most contagious decease), my grand father did not contaminate my vaccinated mother who took care of him while sick. Not a proof, but trending to show than the risk of contamination would be reduced between a vaccinated sick person and a vaccinated healthy one. If only everybody would understand that…

I do not get the whole discussion about "vaccinated, still got the covid". It was made very clear that vaccins primary task was to cause milder infections. It was not so much about getting not infected. It is just a bonus that vaccinated people do not spread infections so much, and can go away without infection more easily.

I agree with you that the biggest benefit of the vaccine is the mitigation of severe cases and preventing people from filling up the hospitals.

I'm not sure how the vaccines were first publicized in Europe. In the US, at the beginning of the year when most people were vaccinated, there certainly was the belief that it was far more effective and longer lasting than it's turned out to be. Obviously with omicron and delta before it, that has not turned out to be the case. Maybe this should have been expected - - but certainly was part of the public discussion at the time.

Still the vaccines have been a real benefit and with some of the drug treatments rolling out, I think deaths will be much lower going forward. In the states, the biggest problem is the number of people with risk factors (so many very overweight people along with associated other diseases). The government/media here hasn't be real honest about how big an issue this is - - perhaps because they're concerned young, healthy people will be less willing to comply.

I do not mind if I have to get a booster every 4 months. Much better than without any protection.

In my opinion, the biggest mistake made by politicians was/is to discuss the opinions in the media, and therefore inviting everybody (without knowedge) to share whatever comes into their mind. The confusion is the biggest issue.

Kanar, glad the vaccs worked out for your grandparents, all the best!

Thx Pete.

On another note, I do not know if you followed the Novak Djokovic drama. But since yesterday we know he attended several meetings and ceremonies, without masks, while he had Covid.

His contamination the 16th of December seemed quite convenient. But now either he lied about it or he broke quarantine. Not sure which one is worst.

I do not know how he is in real life. But what we see from him is that the man does not live up to the sport legend.

Yep, sad but true. Too bad that even the rich / wealthy people cannot picture theirselves to be true leaders. And his father was a joke as well.

Since he is much more in public than the regular Joe it's more open to see the behavior many people do show.

'This pandemic might be a threat, but please don't disturb my business and life. I do what I want.'

Unfortunatelly those public dicks do work as 'role model' that way.

I think this is getting more press in the states than Canada, but there is a huge trucker convoy going from Vancouver to Ottawa to protest the vaccine mandates for truck drivers.

It mimics the fight going on here. In the states, the federal government tried to put mandates on companies with 100+ employees, but the Supreme Court struck it down except for health care workers. Some states and individual companies are free to require vaccination and that's kind of a mixed bag.

I think federal government employees and the military has a mandate - - not sure where that stands.

It seems like the Omicron wave is ramping down and people are less concerned about the virus now because Omicron has been more mild (in terms of hospitalization and deaths). Some states are removing their indoor mask mandates and school mask mandates. Not California though - - not yet at least.

The Governor of California and the mayor of Los Angeles were caught at the 49ers vs Rams football game not wearing masks - - so they are looking a bit hypercritical.

The same in Germany. They try to add mandatory vaccs for health care and care of elder people. So some people started faking ads in newspapers to claim "looking for job without mandatory vaccs", just to put pressure on authorities like "See, no one will do health care anymore". And what to say: it seems to work out. Politicians think loud about having that law in place, but no law enforcement/penalties.

One can be for or against mandatory vaccs, but creating laws with no effect on our daily life...seems more than strange to me.
