While we were in the thick of discussing league restructures a while back, I asked Pete what his take on this was. His response was that he didn't have the time to work on a project as massive as this because of the German football season being in full swing and taking up a large amount of his time. We respectfully acknowledged that and knew that this wouldn't happen for some time.

Now being that it is the end of October and the German football season is wrapping up, I'd like to open this discussion up again, and see where this goes. Now, it would probably be worth your time to look over the past suggestions, the link of which can be found here, so you know what has been previously suggested. I have compiled a list of the suggestions from that thread in case you don't want to go back to the thread itself:

League Restructure Proposals

Suggestor: Me (badgers)
Suggestion: Reduce the amount of regions from 8 to 6

Suggestor: PJRAVENS
Suggestion: Reduce regions from 8 to 4, 2 intermediate leagues. Resulting structure: 1 Elite league, 2 Intermediate leagues, 4 Div. 1 leagues, 8 Div. 2 leagues.

Suggestor: linkleo911
Suggestion: Reduce the amount of regions from 8 to 4

Suggestor: Mücke
Suggestion: Restructure of the bottom of leagues (L2 and Rookie League). X-League [League 2]:
- the number of X-leagues is dynamically determined at each season roll-over
- X-Leagues are filled with human teams from L1 (direct relegations) and Rookie League (eligible promotions).
- The number of human teams determine the number of X-leagues (0, 1, 2, 4, 8, ...).
- if 0 human teams relegate from L1 and 0 human teams promote from Rookie League, the number of X league is 0 as well in that respective season
- if 15 human teams relegate from L1 and 18 human teams promote from Rookie League, the number of X league is 2, with 16 teams in X-league-1 and 17 teams in X-league-2.
- All human X-League members serves as replacements after L1 bot flush
- relegation games between L1 and X-League are skipped
- but the 4 direct relegation spots in each L1 region remain
The Rookie League:
- is kind of a Super-League, because it is designed as 1 league only.
- the number of teams can extend 32 teams.
- New rza managers join the Rookie League automatically.
- Rookie teams must be eligible to promote from Rookie League to X-League.
- New Human managers have to play at least 2 seasons in the Rookie League to become eligible to promote to X-League. joining the game at the end of a season counts as first season.
- New human managers also have to have a 90% full build stadium to become eligible to promote to X-League (first things first).
- Once a Rookie-League human team becomes eligible to promote, it promotes with next season roll-over into X-League automatically.
- Rookie League has different schedule and play concept
- no post-season games (no league bowl tournament)
- but 20 regular season games

Let's talk about this some more, shall we?

I thought the issue was it's big regardless of the time of year and that if it were to happen it would be from the perspective of RZA 2.0 where everything would start again from scratch?

I don’t think that an RZA 2.0 was the idea of this suggestion. RZA is great as it is, and would be a shame to put it all in the trash can. And yes, Pete did specifically say that a project this big would not work between March and October because of the German football season.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just making sure we know our parameters before restarting the discussion. I was thinking of this thing Pete said, specifically the bit at the end Something Pete once said

I would really appreciate this proposal to make the game more competive at all levels.
On League 2 level I would support a flexible number of leagues to have them filled at least 50%.
Promotion to League 1 could be based on best winning percentage in all official games with minimum x games played. Fristly all bot teams will be replaced. Secondly relegation will be played against the worst ranked L1 teams.

I really cannot see any reasonable argument against this.

for opinions to be formed i think there needs to be more detail.

for example game times of the 4 regions suggested, i'm confident most of us chose our region based on game time.

also what is attractive about this for regions that have competitive L2's already? Dragons is one of these.

lastly for now, I am almost certain that any reset will cause me to stop playing. I am not concerned that I am behind those in elite league and cant compete with them. I have built my team up in the time I have been playing and don't want to start over.

Pete, are you considering any league structure changes during this GFL offseason? Or is it not necessary from your point of view?
Would be nice to know, which changes / improvements are on your priority list.

There is no yes/no answer. But I can answer why it will take really good arguing to convince me. Any restructure is not just moving teams around divisions or regions. All the mechanisms that cause relegation and so would need work as well. And, I cannot just make a change. I would have to maintain the history. This makes a restructuring an almost impossible thing and this is the reason why I was answering in the past: I would prefer to closing RZA1, and maybe restart with RZA2, over restructuring leagues.

Just to talk, I am not pushing nor I want to force any decision...
In case of a RZA2 it would be possible keep RZA1 available in read only, migrate the teams from RZA1 to RZA2 exactly how they will be in RZA1 when RZA2 will start and put a link in every new team home page to RZA1?
Throwing away about ten years of RZA history it seems to me definitely worse than keep RZA like it is.
