We have the same discussion ongoing here in Germany. They are not sure how exactly, but possible ways they discuss:

at least 6 months after 2nd shot
cross-vaccs, so 1st/2nd mrna -> 3rd shot vector, and vice versa

At the same time they open up vaccs for younger kids, step by step. Seems they cannot ignore the risks this group is facing. A good part of the current infections are out of groups aged 29 and below.

They talk about it in France too. But I guess it will be step by step same as they did with the first doses.

I am definitly pro-vax. But I find it a bit outrageous to propose a third dose to us while some other countries are facing a huge shortage. Let's make sure everybody can have access to the first and second doses before pushing the booster shot. Once this is done, this booster should be necessary. But variants emerge in countries where the virus spreads a lot. If we do not share the vaccins, we will probably have soon enough a Nigerian or an Indonesian variant.

We also have more chances to get rid of the virus if 80-90% of the population is vaccinated than by having 60% of it with 3 doses.

I was grown up, getting teached about the importance of solidarity, I was living my whole life with this believe in solidarity. I do not believe that politicians would act with such a solidarity as you, and many others, are requesting.

I know... That's a shame. But that's our world. And I am just getting angrier seeing the misinformation spreading on the internet and convincing people not to get the vaccine while others are dying without a chance of getting it.

I think I said it earlier, but my wife is a consultant on epidemiology and public heath with over 10 years of experience on vaccines. If ever around here someone has doubts or question about the vaccine, I would be happy to share them with her so I can post the answer here.

I find this funny, or maybe a little sad how America-centric we are in the states.

Basically, the one mRNA vaccine was developed for the most part by BioNTech, but they have a market/distribution agreement with Pfizer. So in the states, this vaccine is just called the Pfizer vaccine. I guess they figure people think of Pfizer as a US company (even though the founder was a German American) and that plays better (perhaps?). On the other hand, BioNTech is a small German company - - so we wouldn't even mention them.

What do they call the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in Europe?

I guess the other two vaccines in the US are Moderna & J&J - - which are both American companies. Johnson & Johnson has been around forever - - and I think has pretty good name recognition and respect here in the states. Moderna is only 11 years old - - but seems to have made the most effective vaccine (albeit only by a small percentage).

We call it Pfizer in France too. But fun fact, my wife is am epidemiologist and one of her work partner is German. He calls it BioNTech. So I guess not only Americans are national-centered.

Not sure what Aaron Rodgers would call it.

Biontech. It has the 'status' as being the Mercedes of all vaccines.

In Poland we call it Pfizer. I've never heard of someone calling it just "BioNTech", but in official documents it's sometimes referred to as "Pfizer-BioNTech".

They just opened up the vaccine to 5-11 year olds in the states. I guess they give them 1/3 of the regular dose. Are they doing that elsewhere yet?

My son is 11 yo, so he is now eligible.
