Also, is there a position penalty for having a fb in a rb slot on the depth chart? yes you have, because when he plays is out of position and as well if a fb plays as a rb. Unless the position change without penalty status hasn't expired on that player. I believe that in a game there is always penalty for playing out of position. Thing that punch drunk is talking about is just for morale and team chemistry. |

Starting from season 3 there is an "Out of position" penalty active on game time. This will result in a quite high loss of abilities if a player is not playing at his position. There are some exceptions: 1.) There is no skill lowering as long as the player is within his position switch period 2.) There is no penalty when playing Kickers as Punters and vice versa 3.) There is no penalty when playing a player as Gunner, Kick returner, Special Team Blocker or Special Team Tackler, no matter what his original position will be |

So I don't know if this so much a question as a comment, but it seems to me that the game rewards using a variety of the formations, but IRL teams don't tend to practice ALL possible formations; each coach prefers a few that they run and try to create variety inside those formations. If a team were to go switching between all the different formations, it might better confuse defenses, but how many players would be able to learn that many plays and the team become proficient in them?
I personally like being able to run with preferred formations, but don't want to be penalized for that. I understand for purposes of the game it's probably way too much to ask for more customization inside individual formations, so I'll stay happy with what we have here. Just opining... |

the game rewards using a variety of the formations is a bit wrong. It is about combinations of a certain formation, a certain play style in terms of directiions and more. |

Questions about the defensive formations. I'm asking these questions because I know that real life defensive formations don't necessarily equate to a bunch of 0's and 1's pixels in the way they work. lol
Vs Pass Vs Pass would you say 335 or 334 is better? I've read some older posts stating 335 is the best vs pass. Perhaps if all position groups were equal in strength. If you have a fantastic set of LB and at a good group at Safely would 344 be preferable vs if it were reversed? I also read that someone said the sf blitz is broken, and not broken in a good way. Is that still true? When playing the pass with a 335 or a 334 it would stand to reason it is harder to put pressure on the qb than say a 443 or 434. It is weird the 434 is something to be avoided in this engine when it is a staple in the NFL forever and has only been used less because it is hard to find the personnel for it. That is another topic probably. So is using 3 dline vs 4 dline a matter of playing safe vs risky? Would you say the 3 down linemen is the safer way to not give up the big play where as using the 4 down linemen formation puts more pressure and better chance for sack/turnover and also a better chance for the offense to score a big play? Vs Run Vs the run....I read that the 533 is the best vs the run. If you knew 100% for sure they would run in a formation everytime would you think the goal line is a better defense? I imagine goal line vs the run would have more stuffs and a few for short gains but also allow for a slightly higher chance of a long run. Sound about right? Outside of that specific circumstance is 533 that much superior to 443? |

A bump to see what peoples thoughts are on this last post I wrote. Maybe I should have created a new thread but it was related so I thought it would make sense to add it here. Perhaps the Rookie section could or should have a thread labeled Formations and one labeled Positions and one Labeled training and so on instead of a ginormous "noob" thread lol.
