I've been wondering what's the reason ppl leave RZA. Myself, I'm really impressed with how many details from real life football are included. I don't think it's that the game is too simple, that's for sure
 But if someone has played for several years, it can't be that it's too complex, either. RL call? Lack of spectacular success despite the effort? Or do you think it may start feeling like you're not doing anything new, from season to season? My guess is that it's probably that one, mostly.
Because I see something similar among my friends with whom we used to have a group in another manager (that game allows teams), for several years. Suddenly one by one they lose interest. May be it's that, despite some graphical elements, it's still mostly text based game, and _that_ begins to be a burden after several years of playing? Oh well. Good luck the rest of the season to all of you still active! ps. If Jack6 is right, I'm bound to join you next season regardless of my yet pitiful team's current state. Most of the teams leaving haven't played more than a few months. I'd assume they never read the manuals and lose interest getting smashed without having any team direction. The other common reason is spending on a bunch of free agents and running out of money.

Ah. If that's the case, I think it's a good news, rather than bad. For the game, I mean. Sooner or later some geek with a bunch of friends will discover RZA and the population will start growing.

There are several reasons to leave, but the main reason why the game has a slow decline from 800+ members at it's peak to now roughly 250 or less is that after several seasons / years the game stays stable (means to big changes) but real live changes, like school, job, marriage, babies.
Such changes combined with a ten year old games means some lose interest. The most members do stay anyhow only a few days / weeks on the game, but once you have spend a few seasons the manager stays, until the lose interest. Yes, the other reasons do count, too, but I think they only influence the decision to make whether to invest the time into the game or not. A big influence is for sure the time after you hit the mature roster gets old and you have to reload / rebuild. And bad money management is also a big con, since you usually have to rebuild after that almost completly, like been there, done that. |

You're right. Probably yet another factor is socialising. I think below a certain level of population in the game socialising (in the forums, chat rooms) drops dramatically and that further affects the spiral of drops from the game. Until it hits the certain low level, from which the path is only up - as long as the game owner doesn't lose interest earlier.
By the way, I know that I'm a little bit of an outsider here, but still - I'm a Monarchist like you are  Plus believe me, socialising exclusively with bots is sooo boring
So had to find my home somewhere, and this place seemed the most natural (especially since I can expect to be relocated here in a few weeks anyway). And the 2nd by the way - how did you guys pick the Monarchs? In my case, despite being Pole, in my head football sticks with the US. Probably because I spent several years west of the Atlantic and here I first saw the game. Plus football was strong in all places where I lived, so you had to watch it (as a replacement for soccer). So I knew I was going to pick among the US regions, and in the Monarchs I found the kickoffs at the right time of the day. Picking the division was easy - the one I am in was the only one with a non-bot team. Too bad that team went bot before I knew how to send him a hello  |

Seriously I can't remember, why I selected the region.
I started basically on day 1, so I had all the space of the world. Maybe it was the time of gametime, maybe I had a relation prior to that, since I was also on the test server, but can't remember which region I was in at that time. |

I choose the Monarchs league because of the London Monarchs who played in the NFL Europe and World league of American football back in the 90's. I watched them play at wembley including the World Bowl, where they beat the Barcelona Dragons.

Welcome jpnwrt. Hope you will be around for a few seasons yet. I think there are many reasons people leave:
1. Only playing bots is boring. 2. Getting promoted after playing only bots (where you cannot really test your team's abilities) and then getting smashed in your first season, week after week. 3. Overspending. I really think there should be restrictions in place so that this cannot happen because I don't think newbies understand the consequences. Even after a few years playing I got into trouble by misreading the financial forecasts. I think it would be better to stop people spending money that they don't have. The penalty is already there for them - no new players, coaches etc. At least this should operate for the first few seasons. 4. Life changes 5. Boredom - once you have achieved something what is left? 6. Lack of sociability caused by fewer players, causes people to leave, causes fewer players, causes lack of sociability - a vicious spiral. |

The reason that I joined the Monarchs was because I heard about the game from kharton of Berinsfield and I thought ' I can put together a team to beat them'
If I had found out about it another way I probably would have still joined the Monarchs because of the London Monarchs team. |
