In college basketball, we have events like the Big 10-ACC and Big 12-SEC challenge. So if there's interest, and something Pete is willing to do, we could have region vs region challenges and use the regional standings for pairings. For example, a Sea Devil-Monarch Challenge would pit the top team Mystics (SD) against Bradford Yo-yos (Monarchs) all the way down to the bottom teams Hamburg Baltic Dogs (SD) against London Monarchs (Monarchs). The downside would be the inclusion of bots in such a format. We could also add the Elite teams, but naturally, they would be playing against each other but still part of the regional challenge. For rivalry sake, we could keep it a seasonal event against one region, or we could randomly rotate regions every season the way the league scheduling works with divisions.

Could be cool to give a Media Center bonus to the regions that win their challenge for the season. But just plain old bragging rights is always fun, too.

This done right is an awesome idea

Or...
There could be a regional All-Star game that day. A team would be selected from each conference based on the highest rated players a each position, and the playbook selected by the manager of the highest seeded team from the conference. After the initial depth chart is filled, any managers with no players selected could choose a player from their roster to get added. There would be no first string players, with a stamina loss setting that would allow for a lot of subbing, to allow all players a good chance to play, just like irl all-star games. 'Home' team would be the conference with the most overall wins in league play (or PD.)
This would give potential interest to all managers, to see how their players fare.
It would basically be an exhibition game, and the players would not receive any experience or stamina hit or injuries. No money given, though the players could get a mention on their page for regional all-star appearances.

I would not put all the fun on one team or manager. What should the other do? Watch? That is just plain boring.

I would (and in the past did already) suggest to have something similar as bowl games in college or a tournament, best with option to subscribe.

People who would to play something in addition should have an option, the rest can wait.

I am not very familiar with the calendar. How many days are potentially possible to facilitate with such tournaments? Because if it's not very limited, may be a swiss-system tournament would be a good choice?

In theory you have Supercup and League game days, say the last 2 weeks. Most teams don‘t have much to do there. But then you open the can of worm regarding income.

I read the word income a few times. No matter what: I won't generate any new chance to generate income. I thought I should make this very clear not to mislead someone during the discussion.

Exactly. That is the main reason of my suggestion: an event that every team can participate. No extra money from tickets but with a nice prize (trophy, credit or whatever).

My original suggestion already states this because I remember you already said that many times. No extra income, just for fun (but a nice trophy and a couple of credits would be cool )

I also would prefer a multi-day tourney instead of just one, as I stated in my first option in this post, but threw out the pro-bowl idea in case an only one day option would be available.
Was also trying to think around the using your normal team option, partly because everyone is in transition just then, and to give something different for entertainment purposes.
Would it be appealing to have every manager that wanted to participate use the pro-bowl team? Or people prefer to still use their own team in whatever shape it is just then? I'm guessing the latter.
So how's this: have an Open style tourney, with 8 or 16 teams in each bracket, so 3 or 4 games over the two weeks. Once everyone who wants to is signed up, the brackets are filled in ELO ranking order, so people are all playing against similar strength teams?
OR: 4-6 team brackets with round Robin style tourney, so all get the same number of games? The elimination tourney seems more fun I think, at least until you get knocked out
