This was the list of top paid coaches start of the season. highest paid coaches As you can see, Mel Tuckers wage is enormous compared to the others and Michigan State is big, but not THAT big and not THAT successful. |

but 10 years ... 10 years is just paper. The reality is, the contracts do have usually phrases saying, with 10 years to go, you want to leave, 15 mio buyout, we want to fire you, 50 mio guaranteed. With 9 years, 10 mio buyout, 40 mio guaranteed and so on. Usually after half the time the amounts do shrink to manageable amounts. The longer the contract, the higher the buyout and guaranteed money, and the longer it secures the coach, but it's never the full length. Often it happens that you get a new contract after a very successful season, pushing the length again far out, which is basically the signal 'you did good, here is the security blanket for both or us', but in this business the eject button is hit fast. There was an article that the FBS did produce by firing coaches over the past decade somewhat of almost 500 mio dead money, meaning, money the sometimes still own to coaches, not available for the program. Article at ESPN That's a lot of money for saying 'we don't like you anymore'. |

Betting against NIU in the biggest MACtion of the season?! Hurtful.
USC is as much a marquee location as a football destination. Oklahoma is a better sports program but living in Southern California is a night and day difference in quality of life compared to the middle of nowhere farm country. Combine USC's success in the late 90's early aughts and possibly the most coveted place to live in the country and it's a dream job for many. |
