Well, I guess some might not understand the letters.
My condolence on the loss of your queen Elisabeth II. And welcome to King Charlse III (as far as I heard that will be his royal name). Your queen did meet pretty many famous people in her 70 years of service. I think with her age it shouldn't be a big surprise, but you never know. I loved how she did evolve over the late 90 and early 2000 away from that often distant felt person to a more people friendly person. Likely that was not pur marketing, you can not fake it over such a long period I guess. Would love to know, how much her at that time maturing gransons had an influence on that. I personaly would have loved to see Charles just giving it a pass, but I guess he did wait so long, he just wanted to feel the weight of the crown at least for a day or two. Days are not easy, in any country in europe, so it will be interesting to see, how Charles will react on those issues now as King. |

I "hated" her sometimes, other things she did were quite cool. Seems, she was able to keep UK somehow together on many important topics, on others she failed. Of course those 70 years on charge are impressive: she had here crown while Churchill was in charge. What a long journey. After all: she is responsible for quite an impressive part in future history books.

I was proud to have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces (albeit many years ago). What will take a little getting used to is the change in gender. I'm 60 now and it's always been "Her", the "Queen" etc. It's automatic.
It's unlikely anyone will ever replicate what she did in terms of longevity as sovereign, but you never know. Only Louis XIV served longer in world history, and he had the slight advantage of being King at 5 years of age. |

I was uncertain how he would be received (when Diana died his popularity rating was practically zero) and a good percentage of the country lost all perspective at that time.
So far it looks good for him. Personally I always thought he had an unfair treatment by our media. Hopefully he'll be given a fair crack of the whip. It's usually a difficult time on a personal level for a new monarch because to take the throne means the demise of a family member. |
