Game 6

The SH Cougars travelled to Barnsley to take on the Eagles in a match 'marked' on the Eagles calendar since the fixtures came out.

If you scroll back through this FORUM you will find i was somewhat annoyed when the Cougars gave the Eagles a footballing lesson last season.

This for now was a yardstick. Had we improved?

The Cougars are no slouches, joining the game was back in Season 5. With an overall rating of 60% they are Ranked 11th in the Sea Devils League.

They had however had a difficult start to Season 51, after a strong S50, losing their first 3 games of the season. Having rallied to 4-3 they head to Kestrel Road full of confidence.

Towards the end of Season 50 the Cougars shut the Playoff Chasing Eagles down in a routine 30-0 win, a win that ended the Eagles hopes of a Playoff place

Revenge was on the Eagles mind...

The first quarter would be a tight affair. The Eagles would score on their first possession, a 1 yard run from Eddy, with The Cougars replaying immediately with a 12 Yard TD Pass.

The Second Quarter saw another early score from The Eagles, a 2 Yard TD Pass to TE Baboyan. The defense would come up with a HUGE stop on their own 2 yard line ensuring the Cougars had to settle for a FG, before another strong Eagles drive ended in a 3rd TD of the afternoon, a 7 Yard Run by Eddy.

At the Half - Eagles 21-9

The second half followed much of the same pattern. Eddy did, after a half of no turnovers, Fumble on his first possesion in the 2nd Half, leading to another Field Goal to close the game 21-12.

Feeling obviously like he had ignored his Turnover stats, Eddy would throw an INTERCEPTION on his very next possesion, only for the Cougar to toss the ball right back just 2 plays later.

That seemingly knocked the fight out of the Cougars, as they failed to gain any meaningful offensive yardage in the rest of the 3rd, whilst also giving up another 2 x Rushing TDs to Eddy B.

A 3 Yard Pass from Eddy to Carver and another 1 Yard Pass from Eddy to Babayan in the 4th secured the WIN for the Eagles.

English Eagles 49 - 15 SH Cougars

Game 7

Its a visit to Sunny Spain for the Eagles for our first game against newcomers Cordoba Kalifas.

The Stadium - located on the Calle Padre Morales and is shared, bu i can only presume, the Cordoba Kalifas Athletic Squad.

With an Attendance of 96,219 turning up for this one, im not sure where they were all sitting?

The Kalifas played fantastically in front of their own fans and almost found themsleves an upset. The final score flattered the Eagles who have maybe more work to do in terms of their Playbook.

A Strong 1st Quarter showing had the Eagles leading, as expected 14-0. The Kalifas struggled for any positive offensive yardage, whilst the Eagles drove down field 3 times, scoring 2 Touchdown and turning over another on a 4 and 1 attempt from 6 yards out.

The 2nd Quarter was different, with the Kalifas settling into the game and growing in confidence. Starting on their own 20 a length of the field drive led to 1 Yard Rushing TD from Manuele Maiorana. 14-7

A first Interception of the game by Eddy B set Cordoba on a short field advantge, but they could only add a FG. 14-10

The Eagles finally woke up in the 2nd Quarter by adding a Touchdown of their own to make it 21-10 at the Half.

On 1st and 10 in the 3rd Quarter Cordoba QB Salazar found Lucas Lorenzo for a 80 Yard Touchdown to really put the pressure on the Eagles at 21-17

Luckily for the Eagles Burt Kitchen (WR) returned the following Kick off for 56 yards, handing Eddy the ball with 38 yards to go, which, 2 minutes later he would find Carver (WR) for the Touchdown pass and a 28-17 lead.

Cordoba were still alive and kicking and would add a FG before the end of the Quarter, heading into the 4th 28-20 behind.

After a brave fight the experience of the Eagles finally told in the Last Quarter, as they scored an unanswered 24 points, Intercepting Salazar twice in quick succession early in the 4th.

In the end a great game played by the Kalifas and certainly a team to watch out for in the near future.

English Eagles 52 @ 20 Cordoba Kalifas

Unfortuantely the other teams in my Division dont seem to want to lose.

1. Konjarnik Hightowers 8-0
2. Ghost of Bautzen 7-1
3. English Eagles 6-2
4. Poruba Jeremies 1-7

The AC Conference remains highly competitive, with my 6-2 only good enough for 6th place

1. Konjarnik Hightowers 8-0
2. Devon Warriors 8-1
3. Glasgow Tigers 7-1
4. Constanta Ravens 7-1
5. Ghost of Bautzen 7-1
6. ENGLISH EAGLES 6-2
7. Schrodingers Cats 6-2

Next up for the Eagles is the Morchain Chargers tommorow at 1600 with a huge game after that against :

- Constanta Ravens will be a massive game that could have huge ramifications on the final placings

Later in the season :

- Konjarnik HighTowers - Saturday 22nd April
- Glasgow Tigers - Saturday 29th April
- Constanta Sailors - Tuesday 2nd May
- Ghost of Bautzen - Saturday 6th May

Game 8

The 6-2 Eagles took a short hop over the Channel to Amiens, France before heading up to Morchain and the Asgard Stadium for a meeting with the 2-6 Morchain Chargers

The Eagles had played in the Super Cup just the day before against the highly ranked Elite Peoples Republic of Yorkshire, losing 31-21 in a spirited performance.

So the absolute dross that the Eagles churned out just days later was somewhat of a surprise.

The Chargers would win this one by 27-23 as Balandis turned the ball over on 5 occasions, and it would cost the Eagles dearly.

Although the Eagles had almost double the total yardage, a failure to convert on 4th downs and the large number of turnovers left the Chagers with many short field advantages.

Despite this by Q3 The Eagles still had the edge, 17-10. However the tone was set for a poor Q4 when on their own 33 The Eagles attempted a 4 and 2 which failed. With just 33 yards to play, the Chargers levelled it 17-17.

On his own 45 Balandis would then toss an interception on the very next possesion which was returned directly for a Touchdown, 17-24. On Baladis' next play he would toss yet another Interception which the Charger would turn into a fieldgoal.

In the space of 6 minutes the Eagles had gone from leading 17-10 to losing 17-27. Despite finding a late consolation TD the Eagles found themselves on the end of a shock defeat, 24-27 - a result that is a massive set back to the Eagles Playoff hopes.

Game 10

Rumours of a dressing room brawl were rife in the Barnsley Chronicle following the Eagles 27-24 defeat to the Morchain Chargers.

It is alleged Owner Peter Butcher dangled Edgaris 'Eddy The Eagle' Balandis from the Clock of the Chargers Stadium and threatened to drop him after his high turnover performance (and season).

Tensions certainly ran high - with Butcher refusing to talk to Media and storming out of the Asgard Stadium, refusing to travel with the team and travelling back to the UK alone.

A massive game against the 8-1 Constanta Ravens was next at the Eagles home of Kestrel Road. There were questions over Balandis' inclusion, with back up QB Hugo Thrasher training with the first team offence in the lead up.

Balandis was given the nod by Head Coach Rajah however claiming he picked the side, not Butcher.

It can only be imagined then how Butcher reacted up in his luxury box when on his very first possession in the 1st Quarter on the Opponents 25, Balandis tossed a Interception.

Luckily it seems the Football Gods were not on Radu's side as, with the ball on the Opposion 1 Yard Line, The Ravens failed to capitalize on a 4th and 1 and turned over the ball. It would potentially become a theme of the game as on the Constanta Ravens next possesion they would fail on a 4th and 2 with 38 yards to go.

Finally the Eagles Offense would turn up and Baladis would find Kitchen for a 13 Yard Touchdown with 6 minutes of the 1st Half Remaining. Balandis would find Kitchen again 5 minutes later for a 1 yard TD Pass, giving the Eagles a half time lead 14-0

Balandis wasnt gonna make it easy for the Eagles however.

3rd and Goal on the Ravens 2 Yard line Balandis tossed his 2nd Interception of the Afternoon. A huge 52 Yard return handed the Ravens the ball in a great position, and they would convert for the TD, 14-7

Balandis would have another chance to drive the Eagles further ahead but with 9 minutes of the 4th Quarter to play and with the ball once again on the Ravens 2 yard line, Eddy would toss his 3rd Interception of the afternoon.

It wasnt to be the Ravens afternoon however, as despite driving all the way down field from the Interception they would fail on another 4th down attempt on the Eagles 12.

THE COMEDY WASNT OVER however :

Another Interception from Balandis, his 4th of the Afternoon would finish the game with the ball on the Ravens 6 yrd line. This Interception gave Balandis 3 Interceptions inside the Ravens 10 yard.

Could you claim defences were on top in this low scoring game?

Or did both offences just have a stinker?

Im going for the latter, Balandis still thinks its Christmas and keeps tossing gifts.

English Eagles 14 v 7 Constanta Ravens

A tough run

Currently the Eagles occupy the 6th spot and, if the regulations season ended today we would find ourselves in our first playoffs.

The run in however is SOLID.

The Run In

12. @Konjarnik High Towers (11-1)

The Eagles have won once in eight attempts against their AC West Rivals. They have lost the Last 6. Last time out at Kestrel Road we came close to an upset, losing by 5. The last time we visited The Three Towers Arena was last season where we were soundly beaten 34-13.

13. v Poruba Jeremy's (1-10)

We have learnt recently that their are no guarantees in RZA but with 1 win all season The Eagles should be looking to guarantee a win here. The Eagles have won 3/3 v The Jeremy's but needed a 4th Quarter Rally last time out in a 41-20 Win

14. @Glasgow Tigers (10-1)

Absolutely not a team I would want to be facing in the run in. Scorcio has had my number in the only 2 meetings between the sides, a 32-0 shut out and a 49-21 beating in Season 50.

15. @Constanta Sailors (10-1)

The Sailors are having a fantastic season and are the 3rd side in The Eagles run in with just 1 defeat all season. The Eagles have beaten the Sailors in both of their 2 meetings, including a shock 56-26 victory this season in the Supercup.

16. Ghost of Bautzen (9-2)

We finish with Bautzen, on paper a very even game. The Bautzen have won 2 out of 3 of the meetings between the two, however it took a 'Game of the Year' for the Eagles to pull that one out. Last time out the Ghost beat The Eagles 31-20.

Liklihood is we will need at least 3 Wins from 5, though looking at the runs ins that maybe not enough.

Can I play game of the Year every game?

Yeah, you can try and play every game like it's the Match of the year. That should do the trick
Good luck

Game 13

It was our Annual trip to Serbia this week as the Eagles travelled to Konjarnik to tangle with Uleros High Towers.

Always a tough prospect!

Konjarnik is located in the suburbs of Belgrade

And i reckon i now know why they are called the High Towers.

In a tight 1st Half the Eagles more than matched the 11-1 High Towers, leading at the Half by 10-9, including a Balandis 65 Yard Touchdown Pass to Meric Semsik. The Eagles defence limited the High Towers to just 3 Field Goals.

The 2nd Half got off to the best possible start, as The Eagles drove the field to extend their lead 17-9. Balandis securing the Touchdown himself on a 8 yard run.

The High Towers high powered offence seemed to spring into life, spurred on by 130,000 Konjarnik fans and motivated seemingly by that early Eagles score.

They replied immediately, a 2 yard pass closing the scores back to a singular point. The High Towers defence then picked Balandis on his very next play resulting in another Touchdown. Quick Fire scores and suddenly the Eagles were behind for the first time in the tie. The Eagles struggled to move the ball in the 3rd Quarter but would find the End Zone again early in the 4th - A QB Sneak for a 1 yard TD. At 26-23 this was still anybodies game.

As always against the bigger and better teams however the 4th Quarter would prove a disappointment. Despite holding the High Towers to a Field Goal, getting the ball back at 29-23 down with 7 minutes to play, Balandis would toss his 2nd Pick of the day to effectively end the game.

From here it drifted away to a 36-23 defeat for the Eagles, who drop out o the play off places as a result.

Interestingly...

Edgaris Balandis leads the Sea Devils in PASSING YARDS and RUSHING YARDS, which i thought was quite the stat.

Unfortunately he also has 7 more Interceptions than any other QB in the league and is second for Fumbles.

He will be a beast in seasons to come... Im sure of it.

Congratulations on your win today. Those kind of games happens. First time for me to have less than 3 third down conversation in a game (only one today). Not sure chat happened, but at least I « happy » it happened against a SD team.

Huge shock 😲

I reckon if we play that game 100 times I only win once.

Great Game.
