Following on from another thread, what cars have you owned, why, and what were they like?

Mine:
1989-1992 - a 1969 Mini 1000cc, unreliable, didn't lock, overheated, wobbled at 70mph, but I loved it! (It lost a fight with a Vauxhall Cavalier)
1992-1996 - 1978 VW Polo, 900cc piece of crap. 2 tone bodywork, sky blue and rust, scrapped, it deserved it.
1996-1999 - a white 1980s Nissan Sunny 1300GS - went ok, but kept getting drunks jump out in front of me because they thought I was a taxi - traded in for.....
1999 to current (now my wife's car) - brand new Toyota Yaris GLS - cheap to run, best small car ever made.
2004 to 2012 - 2000 Peugeot 406 HDi Estate - cheap, big, comfortable, eccentric, not very reliable, scrapped because it was too expensive to get the clutch changed.
2012 to now - 2003 Rover 75 2.0 Turbo Diesel - the one with the BMW engine - a brilliant car, too late to save Rover from going bump though sadly.

2007 to now - my baby in my picture - yeeeeehaaaaaaa (off the road now though cos I ran out of cash)

MotorBikes included?

1989-1991: MZ ETZ 150...it was the best bike you could buy oin the GDR, and I was proud of mine, being 17

1991-1994: Honda CBR 600F...100 HP and 180 kg...The Speed (Jeremy Clarkson)

1991-1992: Trabant 601 DeLuxe...Yes, that was a car! My first one

1991-1993: Fiat Panda 750...most terrible piece of technology I ever had...maybe except ...no, it was the worst...Italians may be good cooks...but car builders? (I know, someone will mention red and yellow Supercars soon)

1993-1994: Honda Prelude, 135 HP, tuned to the hell, hard, race suspension...black beauty

1994-now: Toyota Camry 2.2GL, automatic gear...I love it, robust, solid, no strange things that could break...me and my family love this car...and we try to turn it into a Youngtimer..have to wait for another 8 years

2001-2002: VW Golf...fucked up car, hate it

2002-2007: Toyota Corolla 2l Diesel...was ok
2007-2011: Saab 9.3 Sportstourer, 1.9l Diesel turbo...love it, love SAAB!
2011-now: Saab 9.3 Sportstourer, 1.9l Diesel twinturbo, love it much more

Yeah bikes!

A friend of ours was a mad biker, he had a 1000cc Suzuki, and was rebuilding a Kawasaki GPZ900R (the iconic bike used in Top Gun). He also had an Aprillia 600cc race bike, and was looking to build a sidecar with a view to doing road racing (he asked me to be his 'passenger').

He took my wife for a 100mph spin along local country roads, and she came back with a grin broader than I've given her in 11 years of marriage....

Sadly he was killed last year riding his bike home from work

Saabs are (were?) great, and you can't beat Jap Crap for reliability.

Yes...biking. I gave it up when I got married and the small one was on the way...it was just too dangerous. not in regards of self control, but in terms of external influence by others...and I would never by such a racing bike again...if I will ever have a bike again, then it will be old school, maybe something american

Saab is a very own story. My company I am working for was one of the last SAAB dealers in Germany, and we had good connections to Sweden, to Spyker and so on. Therefore I was quite into it when all the rumours came up, and Spyker finally was able to buy Saab out of Government Motors, we ran the page rescuesaab at that time, with thousand of visitors from around the world, but even with so much support, and the first real Saab-Saab producing since "decades".. no luck.

Well done, dear GM suckers...fuck ya

There was a nice review on Saabs history on Top Gear, Series 18, Episode 5...

Hopefully at least a little of Saabs spirit can survive in this new electro car thingy...

I was asked to drive my Saab a little further or switch to Opel Insignia...guess

1976 Honda Z50 'motorbike' drove around the desert of Saudi Arabia when i was 11 to 14 yrs old. Petrol was 10 pence a gallon!!!!

1978 Ford Fiesta - my first car and did ok but when I came to sell it the radiator burst during the buyers test drive

1982 VW Polo - not good shattered the VW myth for me.

1985 Ford Escort, bought this when it was 1 yr old and within another year the roof was bubbling rust. Ford - never again for me.

1986 Renault 9 died a glorious death on the M4 but I survived.

1986 Triumph Acclaim a british saloon car with a Honda engine never let me down but looked like shit

1987 Nissan Bluebird my first proper Jap car lots of fond memories of 5 yrs of reliable motoring

1990 Citroen BX broke down 4 times in the year I had it. French - never again for me.

1992 Toyota Carina back to jap and what an awesome big car.

1999 Mitsubishi Spacewagon - good car but people carriers are not for me.

2003 Toyota Avensis still going strong after eight years and 80,000 miles it has never let me down or had a single fault. Bought a Yaris for my wife last year. I'm saving up for a Lexus

You bought a Yaris for your wife? You should be saving up for a divorce lawyer, not a lexus!

Passed my test in 1996 brought a Fiat Uno later that year as my first car because the insurance was cheapest (still best part of a grand though).

When that went kaput in about 2000 I got a Rover 25 for a couple of years

2002-2006 I had a 51 plate Golf GTI pokey little thing but cost a fortune every service and MOT.

2006-2008 I had a Ford Focus and a Mondeo both older models. Both were written off parked up at home (one behind a wall!)

2008-2011 I had an Alfa Romeo 146 or possibly a 147. Most certainly the best car I've ever owned so much fun to drive although finding parts what a bitch for the odd time I needed to. So much fun in the snow!

2011-2013 Another Focus which was nice but boring as hell to drive (another write off at home other car slid down the slight hill at home and took it out)..

Not owned a car since, wanted something cheap as I've been working near home but everytime I've test drove it I've been bored.

I've owned a 76 Chevy Nova, a 76 Pontiac Grand Prix, and a 70 Plymouth Fury III. My fave was the Plymouth. oh yes and a Dodge Coronet. That one was great, too much engine for that car (318 cu in). That thing could move.

I've always lived in big enough cities to be able to use public transportation so I've never had to buy a car => More money for beers
