Hello all,
It is (often?) said that strength of schedule (SoS) is the most underrated statistic in football. It has a huge impact on how successful you can be over the course of a season and could impact the level of morale your team has going into the play offs. I therefore analysed the rzbeckos rating of every team and their schedule (using rankings before the first league game) and created below graphs. STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE This shows the average ranking per team they'll play this season. As you can see Severnside Cardinals are the most screwed team this season as his opponents have on average the highest ranking. STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE in % I also have a graph that shows the SoS as a percentage of your own ranking (ie lower is easier schedule). This puts the SoS in perspective as Severnside Cardinals here is on 101% which means that on average they'll play teams of comparable strength. This is of course because they are a much better team. You can now easily see that Texas Tech has the most difficult games of all teams in Thunder 1.1. ADJUSTED STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE However we are all in divisions and we have to play these teams regardless of our schedule. So what if we took the in-divisional games out of the equation and then looked at the SoS. This represents more accurately the different schedule we all play each season and which can vary wildly from season to season (while divisions of course remain quite stable). ADJUSTED STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE in % Same as above but again shown as a percentage of your own ranking. Nice work.
I think it's important to remember that teams in a division will have 14 opponents the same and 2 'random' matches. Source: http://i.imgur.com/KtxjBeE.jpg As an example I've shown the fixtures for Broncos and Cheese. As you can see we have: 4 games in common with our divisional rivals (Machine & Raiders) 8 games against the same opposition (Tornados to Thangs). 2 matches against each other 2 'random' matches. (Mine against Divers and Steelers and Broncos against Basterds and Swifts) As you can see the actual fixtures for teams within a division is fairly similar but those 2 random matches can be crucial if 2 divisional rivals are closely matched. Thanks again, nice work Cheesehead |

I actually didn't know this! This changes everything
But I can easily adjust this now in my spreadsheet, just need to find the two random opponents per team....in an easy way |
