I am quite sure...if we just look for it long enough, we will find enough reasons to carry 100 men rosters as well. And yes, challenges are created by having limits. So here we go. Exactly. I don't see how anyone can say they are managing strategically and complain about roster limits in the same breath... We have tons of room on our rosters. Managing your roster is half the point of this game. |

Thanks for all the congratulations in between this interesting discussion here in this thread.
Finally one of the major trophies found its way into my trophy room. (And an extra thanks to the Montesacro Mermaids for knocking the big mean Blitzkrieg team from San Diego out of the competition. That is something my team will never be able to do.) |

So here we go. and if you look long enough, you also find arguments why all of college sports is slavery and that there are elements of it in professional sports too - players get cut or traded right now without having much of a say in it. but why this sudden sentiment for our retiring guys? before a player makes this decision, I can cut and trade him any day, but once he enters his final year I'm stuck with him, cant trade and not even get rid of his salary, if I see better options emerging - via TM for example? so before the "human trafficing" was all good, but once the player decides to leave the game, its "slavery" to cut him - well if it came with a "trade or retirement"-option, (hey empower the players to force their way out if that makes you feel better), I would get that. but why is this necessary? maybe its just an analogy taken too far, and we are in fact not in the roman Colosseum yet? That change is really going to hurt teams whose bread and butter is picking up old superstars off other teams.

Would we still have the option to pay retirees to convince them to stay? If convinced to stay, would they no longer be retirees and eligible to be fired or placed on the TM?

They still have the begining of the season to buy players after the old ones have retired and if they previously had all offseason, because they weren't in any playoffs, to do this then i guess their strategy wasn't working too well and it's time to change anyway? |

Not that they can't buy players, the issue for them is going to be that the market is no longer flooded with quality veterans for cheap. Sorry Steve |

I'm sure this will change the buy-veterans-strategy.
The had that risk of retiring always on them and the only change is that they have to keep them until season final. Since they want to make the playoffs and play as long as possible anyway, they couldn't have calculated with the pink-slip after last regular season game. So the only risk now is, they have to pay them a few more trainings. Could change it, sure, but I doubt it. Their prices might drop a bit, which will maybe make some more teams go for veterans and gamble on their career end. Remember, veterans are sold prior their retirement plans and at rollover the dices are rolling for every player. I had for example on last rollover only 4 players retiring, 2 of them wanted to play further, if I pay them a bonus. After the hickup and the rollover 2. try I had 13 retiring players with 2 of them willing to play for bonus. So it's a gamble which can pay off, still. |

That's true. This really only affects cutting guys, who you can't then buy anyhow. So probably not as big an impact as I was thinking.
