How effective is 4-3-3 75% blitz against the run?
Assuming you think the other team might be running 30-40% so you want to blitz the QB, but also stuff the run. Steve SD Blitz |

Can we assume that in rushing plays the LB blitz goes the same for the QB ignoring the ball carrier?
I can see ball carriers tackled and fumble forced only by blitzing SF in my stats. If this is true, rushing outside, the RBs/FBs have at disposal a potential "hole", the one left by the blitzing OLB. In addition 4-4-3 doesn't have a SS. The probability shoud be 2/4 OLB blitz x 1/2 rush in the hole direction = 25% Having two MLB one of them it will be always ready to counter the rush in the middle. But the main question is... do the DLs act in the same way in case of blitz order, or without blitzing against the rush the DLs as a whole are more effective? looking forward for all of you opinions. |

My experience is this is really unstable, at least with the player types I tend to prefer.
You end up being big play susceptible due to the lack of DBs, But the run defense is weakened by the blitzer not having gap integrity. It did seem to me that the blitzer has a higher chance of causing a fumble while flying by the runner, but not enough to overcome the basic "worst of both worlds" instability. And might just be small sample size noise. |
