Many moons ago I played a PBM called Gameplan, these were the passing options:
Screen - high completion %, good yardage against blitzes, not much else Tight End - quick inside pass to TE, usually low yardage but high completion %, the only pass which worked well from running formations with 2 TEs Flare Pass - short yardage pass out towards the sideline to a RB - much depends on the RB's skills - weak against run defenses which focus on the backs. Short Inside - clutch pass to receiver on inside/underneath route, good against blitzes, high completion against 'Prevent' defenses, but generally low yardage (5-10) Short Outside - typically 7-10 yards to receiver running a sideline pattern - success dependant on having good wideouts Deep Inside - normally 15+ yards to receiver on post/crossing pattern - success very dependant on defense playcall and O-line Deep Outside - as above but to sideline, higher chance of breaking for big yards than deep inside pass Hail Mary - fling it to the heavens and hope... Option Pass - supposed to be good with a scrambling QB against run defenses, but I never got it to work properly In early leagues, successful teams tended to draft good RBs/TEs and run 2 TE formations, using off-tackle and central rush plays combined with Tight End passes... I heard other passes became prevalent as rosters got deeper, but by then I'd gone to University and discovered beer. Edit - just had a peek at their website - the game is still going and there are many more playcalls now Last edited on 2011-12-14 19:09:38 by JonnyP |

So "pass" = screen or short? If I'm remembering right, "pass" means "go for first down". |

That would be a nice test.
My guess: The distance to the first down marker is mixed with a random factor, so it can still happen, that the WR catches the ball, but it is short. |
