When do we actually get the message abaout a player/coach retiring? At season rollover he gets +1 year to his age, and right after that or they decide in the middle or end of the season?

He makes the decision at seasonrollover, to retire at the following seasonrollover. So you have 1 season to hire a new one

But then we'll have to fire him before and pay the penalty, or is there no penalty in case the coach will retire anyway?

You could just wait til season rollover, and then hire a new coach. Without any penalty.

Hmm, but what if I find my "perfect" coach underneath the season? Would be great to have the possibility to part ways by common accord...

Make the bid, when you see him...and if you are going to win the auction, fire the grandpa before the nightly transfer. By this, you give him a good amount of money for his coming years, which is a fine move IMO
