Hello all,
I Got a new team. My weakest part of understanding football is what formations to use and where (Pro set, 5-3-3, etc) I know the basics in real life- I form= running heavy - How formations are 'termed' like 5-3-3 for positions. My question is how do I get the best out of a new team? What formations are good against others but poor against others? How does this relate to the game? ex. if one formation isn't implemented as well in the game. Should i base it off of what players I have? I'm not looking for, or expecting a 'cheat sheet'. Just some pointers and what some community members do. Thanks! Hope I made myself clear... |

welcome to the game mate
What i would suggest is to seperate your squad from future players, mid career players and players on the verge of retiring(30yrs + i think). Then assess what you have using the main skill for the position and physical skill. so a strong player with good carry would be a RB. and so on. Your beginning team should be based off the running game, but that does not mean you must rush 100% When i started i set a playbook to a l t e r from runs to pass plays when the clock was inside 4 minutes. If you need any more help, the forums are always helpful...and so are the people or hit me a PM(the envelope thing on my team page) enjoy your time in RZA |

The defense positions are listed like (lineman)-(linebacker)-(safety). So a higher number first means more lineman which is usually better against the run.
What you want to do is find your best player and then that players best position. For example if you have a guy with high strength and high carry make him a running back and build around him (good offensive line). Once you have your players sorted use formations that compliment them. As you said, I-formation for running, pro set or 2/4 wide receiver sets for passing. Then build your defensive playbook. |

Thx for the help guys.
I feel like I have everybody in the positions I like. The problem for me is what kinds of plays I should run with different formations. I do have a better understanding of it though. |

for the first game you might want to just let the standard play books work then when you see how each play works add a couple at a time to see if they perform the way you want.
