I haven't done that, but have been tempted to just pay the penalty because I didn't want to let a youth go.

I see two separate issues :-

(1) a "Timing" issue ... for example, I bought a 16 yr old this morning, I've got a Max YA, so I need to do something before next training ...maybe I just forget or am away for a day or two ... so I get the fine ...no complaints.

(2) I decide that it's to my advantage to run 25,30,60,90 players in my YA, so I do that and willingly pay a $100k fine per u p d a t e .

No point me giving any further opinions though as Pete has said he'll review it. But now that it's been discussed in the forum, I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody doing it ...if they aren't already !

But once you are over the limit, you can't add any more youth players via the youth pull. Granted, you can still buy them and add to your YA.

$100k for 1st player over YA limit
$200k for 2nd player over limit
$300 k for 3rd player
$400k for 4th player
....

So $1.5M cumulative for 5 players over limit. That would stop me!!

Perhaps a malus in training if you are over the limit.

Good one!

Another game I play limits the number of players that can be trained - so if the YA exceeds the limit. only the standard number of players will train, chosen at random.

So - if 24 players in a max built YA (limit 22), two random players get no training.

In some ways that makes sense, as it's similar to the penalty for an oversize Senior Roster.
I'll be interested to see what Pete decides to do (if anything) re an oversize YA ... because to me, there is a very fine line between a "clever tactic" or a very smart reading of the rules and an "exploit".

In fact, I'd go so far as to define a RZA "exploit" as ..."an act, feature or tactic which in Pete's opinion is being misused or not used in the way originally intended and Pete feels that in order to keep a certain aspect of the game in balance, this act/feature/tactic should be made less effective or removed entirely".

The only thing that would worry me slightly is that I don't think a manager should be punished too severely for just occasionally straying over the max YA (i.e. that to me is "forgetfulness" or "bad timing" or "being inattentive" ).
However, if somebody were to run a YA of 40 all season long ....that's looking very much deliberate and maybe that needs punishing ...if Pete decides that it's an exploit to do that.

Hmmm, I thought you couldn't get a youth pull if your YA already had 22 players, and I can't get more than 23 players in my YA even with transfers, it won't let me bid on any more players.
