So, I've never played in a championship so I never noticed before, but why is there a week difference between the conference championship game and the league championship game?

We want to see the relegation games before the Bowl, the very last league game each season, happens. We had to select: Bowl on Saturday, but relegation afterwards, or vice versa

For those who played MOTY in the conference-cship this offers the opportunity to recover from the PC loss... something I think is pretty good as well. So the bowl can be played with rested teams.

In the NFL there is also a bye week for the Superbowl teams to help them rest.
