OK ..... a quick disclaimer :-
I'm not claiming to be an expert on -TOG- or an expert on "dark wing" at -TOG- but as a quick explanation of how -TOG-Dark Wing works for guys who haven't played -TOG-before, here is my attempt .......... Darkwing ?? it's complicated, but I'll try my best ! ..... First - a brief explanation of a "Formation" in -TOG- There are no 'preset formations' in -TOG- you can "create your own" formation. There are 2 types of formation ... (1) illegal formation (2) legal formation You can't create an illegal formation. "Illegal formation" means that it doesn't conform to -TOG-rules, it DOES NOT mean that it is an acceptable formation in the NFL .... for example, 3 x O-Lineman formations are "legal" in -TOG-but "illegal" in the NFL, Pink Panthers used to have a 3 O-Lineman formation and it worked well. In the NFL you must have 5 interior linemen. Some of the rules for legal/illegal formation are :- 1.1. LEGAL OFFENSIVE FORMATION Offensive formation is seen as "legal" when: a) It has all 11 players assigned b) Has exactly 1 quarterback c) Has at least 7 men on the line of scrimmage d) Has exactly 1 center and at least 2 players that are assigned a position of either guard or tackle e) Does not have more than 1 guard (for each side), tackle (for each side), tight end (for each side), halfback (for each available position) and fullback (for each available position). To explain: You can have 3 halfbacks if they are halfback (right), halback (center) and halfback (left). However, you cannot have 2 or 3 halfbacks (center) f) Does not have more than 2 wide receivers (for each side) g) Has at least 1 running back of any type and on any position 1.2. LEGAL DEFENSIVE FORMATION Defensive formation is seen as "legal" when: a) It has all 11 players assigned b) Has at least 2 men on the line of scrimmage c) Does not have more than 1 nose tackle, tackle (for each side), end (for each side), outside linebacker (for each side), strong safety (for each available position) and free safety (for each available position). d) Does not have more than 4 middle linebackers e) Does not have more than 2 cornerbacks (for each side) Darkwing is a formation where you have ONLY ONE "RECEIVER" on one side (TE & WR are what I mean by receivers- RB's/FB's are NOT receivers). The second component of Darkwing is that in your match orders you set the "direction" to whichever side your single receiver is on. e.g. suppose that your offensive lineup is this :- 1xOC,2xOT,2xOG,1xFB,1xRB,1xTE/R,1xTE/L,2xWR/L . In this case you have all your WR's on the left plus a TE/L, and only a TE/R on the right ... so you set your match orders to "Attack down the right flank" and to "Pass - 90%".What happens then is that the only 2 guys who are really in the game from your team are the TE/R and the QB. The theory behind Darkwing is that you don't need to spend millions on wages to get a superstar team, you just need a top QB and a top WR or TE. Darkwing is controversial though, one or two of the -TOG-managers see it as almost like cheating. From what I've seen, some of the teams in the higher division still use Darkwing and some of the National Teams use Darkwing. Some of the forum users are hoping Darkwing is obsolete with the new V3 engine ... time will tell. If ever you want to tell if a team used Darkwing in a game, you need to go to the Match Stats, check the line-up and if it's a non-symetric line-up (e.g 2 WR/L's and no WR/R) then it's possibly Darkwing, then check the "Match Live" commentary, if it's Darkwing you'll see that the Quarterback throws to John Smith, then again to J.Smith, and again and again .... i.e. there is never even an attempt to throw to any other TE or WR. |

But against a similar offense is not easy to defend?
2 CBs over the super TE and the complete's percentage might be not so good... On RZA it's easy to play an offense like Dark Wing: a great L-TE, a great QB, no substitutions for TEs, Big-I and pass to the left side. But on RZA we have almost two weapons against this kind of offense. The first is the low percentage of complete passes; the second is that the PC after some actions will drop down. So, I think that a similar offense has very low chances to be so good...  |

It was UK vs Australia, the UK were playing dark wing. The UK had TE/L,WR/L,WR/L and WR/R (so dark wing to the right). So ...Australia guessed which side the dark wing was going to be and therefore Australia had CB/L,CB/L,FS/L,SS/L .... and no safeties or CB's on the right ...it seemed to work as Australia won ! btw ... I don't think your 2 CB's over the TE works in -TOG- because the CB's tend to just cover WR's, the coverage for TE's tends to come from LB's and Safeties (Strong and/or Free) .... but I understand the point you were making

Also, in -TOG-no matter how many CB's you have,, because only 1 will intervene in the play.
