This is an offensive formation that is quite popular in the college ranks. Its not your standard shotgun formation, because it usually has a HB/RB (located in the center) not a fullback in the backfield so it's a better running formation, but perhaps not as strong in pass protection. Pass protection is usually less of an issue because its an offense designed with a lot of quick throws.

I like this formation and I think it adds some needed variety.
I also think that the next offensive formation added should be a formation with HB's running the ball, as I get a bit cheesed off with all the gimmicky Shotgun-rushers out there (you know who you are  )... so this fits the bill
Why "Pistal" though .... is that just a typo ? ... maybe I shouldn't question it, the Americans know far more about guns than I ever will 
seriously though .... nice choice of formation, and I remember from TV commentary that John Madden seemed to be fixated with the pistol formation (he once amusingly referred to it as the sawn-off shotgun ), if it's good enough for Madden, who am I to argue. |

Don´t forget at the moment there couldn´t be nonsymetric WR´s. so 3 WR isn´t possible.
But the RB instead of the FB is a good idea |

Not more than 2 WRs per side. Not more than 1 TE per side, exactly 5 Linemen (OTL-OGL-OC-OGR-OTR). We do not accept any one sided formations like 2 WR left side, no WR right side." I read that as being no totally one-sided formations (e.g 3 WR's to the left , 0 WR's to the right) .... because the Big-I is non-symmetric ( 1 WR only) and the I-formation is non-symmetric (1 TE only ). Quite frankly the way formations are used in this game is an artificial way to involve players like the FB I guess for engine reasons.
The 'pistol/shotgun" is really only a tag for the positioning of the QB not a formation technically. Every formation in the game could have the QB in any of the 3 (under/pistol/shotgun) positions. Formation really refers to the skill players and personnel packages used. For this type of game it does not need to be too complex. If we had the current "shotgun" formation with the option of using a HB I wouldn't have FB's on the roster at all and could have a coach for my special teams. This thread seem to be a priority on being able to use a HB in "shotgun" formation and trips type formations. So in conclusion why not have the 2 "shotgun" formations just have the position of RB instead and allow coaches to use FB's or HB's in that spot. Leave the default as FB and add the option in the playbook to use either FB or HB when "shotgun" plays are present. Hace a simple check box for HB if the coach wnats HB's in "shotgun" instead. |

I think right now, the distance of the QB from the C is not incorporated int he simulation/game engine. However, it maybe in the future.
