So first the question...

In the playbook options it says def formation vs pass and def formation vs run for each of the offensive formations. How does the defense determine if that same offense formation is set up for pass or rush?

Second the discussion/question:

What do you guys do with your def playbooks in general? I set mine up to deal with formations only, so I have only 7 lines in my defensive playbook. One for each of the offensive formations. Do you guys go beyond that? If you do, have you found any significant advantages? I ask because I can see if you had specific circumstances it might be helpful but it would seem to carry a big scouting workload to really use it. My thoughts are that once teams are more equalized it might become more important...not sure though...

IMO Buffalo is on the mark for the first question.

Second part is I ran a basic 7 plays def for most of last year....but than I kept running into this team from SF that forced me to add a few extra plays..... lol

In reply to SLIDER 6 I don’t have them in the [that[ defensive regardless of offensive formation. Something I noticed last season, but never gave it much thought until this topic was started. I have rebuilt the playbook we will see over the next couple of games. My guess it is a glitch from changing stuff in a playbook but never starting new. No biggie as games have been blowouts so far, but would hate to lose one later because of a setup not used. My question is why do DB’s flip flop all over the place?

Could it be that you don't have a D for that specific instance, so the engine is picking a random D from the game settings?

I may be wrong, but I suspect this is based on the substitution settings.

Your starting line-up is based on your depth chart. However, as soon as the energy level or whatever settings you have are reached, then the engine starts picking other players from your depth chart. Thus your starting CB on one side might not get picked first but instead gets picked second and plays on the other side.

Probably the only way to keep the players on the same side is to tell the engine to not substitute all game long. (And I am not sure that will ensure no "flip-flopping" from one side of the field to the other, because I never tried it - might be worth a try in a friendly game.)

In response to the first question I believe the compute decides whats likely to be a run or pass play based on two things.

1, the situation. If its 3rd and 25 they should in theory set up in the pass defence formation.
2, the players previous - If the opponent runs 90% of the time I think a 1st and 10 I think they will set up in the rush defence formation

Now onto the second question.

I have kept my offensive and defensive playbooks pretty simple until last night. When I have changed my playbook to deal with situations

I thought of the Slider but it has put them in the correct defense during the same series of plays. The energy level may be a reason, but why would the ME go to a default when you have the defense set up? Will see later today. It also only does it on one defense which is why I think it may be a glitch.

As for flipping DB’s no clue, same guys different side. The energy question is a good one, but I noticed that last game it put in a sub in first series after half. However based on the score and stats not out of the question. Which brings up the joke:

What’s big blue and goes backward? Chicago Blues defense!

Must have been a holdover glitch. Two games and no repeat of a default defense. [Not that it mattered much anyway]
