This wont be very popular and also not sure how workable it is but I am thinking on my feet here.

When a player goes up for sale he is brought by the game and enters free agency. The compensation would depend upon his salary (at estimated rates so you can't offer a player a new bumper contract he doesnt deserve and sell him) and number of weeks the player has been at the club.

When the player enters FA and is sold the league gets the money (maybe his previous team could get a small percentage for developing him?)

The league should have the funds to purchase these players as they have been taxing transfers for a while (plus Verburch went bot with millions in the bank).

Pete could then increase the number of FA that enter the TM so that there is always a decent sized transfer market.

I will post another suggestion shortly about those selling players to raise funds when going bankrupt.

This is similar to another sim I play, Goalunited (apologies if I'm not supposed to mention it, can edit out). Where each player has a sale value which you'll receive if you try to sell. Then you get nothing of what he goes for... So you decide to sell a player with a sales value of 1mil. You get 1mil credited to your account and thats it. Even if he goes for 100mil...

Is this along the same lines you were suggesting?

Something like that yes but as I don't play many games like this online I hadn't seen it before. Maybe as an incentive if possible to write into the game we could offer a small % of the next sale of the player to the selling side.

I have mixed feelings about this suggestion. On one hand I like it, since it will take a buttload of money out of the game, but on the other hand woudn't that be too much money taken out? Especially with the stadium condition kicking in next season (I know I know 8 mill a season for repairs isn't all that much, but remember the other "new features" Pete mentioned). I doubt player prices will drop, since a buyer doesn't care if his money goes to another manager or out of the game. Personally I prefer to buy a free agent not to fill another manager's bankroll, but when I'm selling I like to get my player's worth. Maybe I just got too used to the crazy TM prices by now, I don't know... But there are a lot of managers making their money on the TM by buying cheap (maybe developing a little) and selling high. And after the older teams income vs expenses plateau the only way for them to make money is by selling their well developed players. With this change implemented they would get close to nothing for their players IMO. But maybe this is a "lucky" built in "faster climb" for new managers since as long as their income is way higher than their expenses they would rule the TM. And I'm just writing whatever comes to my mind while I think this suggestions trough, so yeah...mixed feelings.

You said compensation would depend upon estimated salary and number of weeks spent at the club. Could you give us an example how this would work? The small % from the sale is also a must IMO.

Like with contracted players when you negotiate a contract there is an estimated salary based on his skill numbers. If you used that instead of his actual salary this would prevent me from having a pile of tripe come through my youth pull, I promote him offer him a massive contract then sell him making a shed load of money.

Lets just say you have been here from the start of the game and one of your original players is being sold. So far he would of been here for I think it is 113 updates so if he was earning $1000 a week you could multiply the two maybe even have another multiplier in there to make the player development worthwhile.

For example (# of updates * 100) * estimated weekly wage at the time of sale = sales value of $11.3m

A player who has had that many updates would be likely to fetch $50m + so if the selling team got 10% that would be a total of $16.3m instead of $50m

Like I said I was thinking on my feet so its a very raw suggestion.

There's a problem with including updates into the calculations. Think about draft and YA players for example. They both join your team simultaneously but the draft player never had any updates to start with (or maybe give them 1 season's worth while being on the board), but the YA player could've been develeoped for 4 seasons. And unless you focus your training points on only 1-2 of them, any youth player will be worse than a fresh 1st/2nd round draft pick.

Maybe give a different weighing for updates inside the YA?
