See here

In my match today my opponent ran for the entire 1st half and then came out passing in the 2nd. He scored 4 TDs in the 3rd qtr. It seems my D adjusted by the 4th and he did not score again.

My question is, what can be done about this?

If you duplicate your D PB for 1st and 2nd halves will that mean that the tendencies of the D are reset beginning the 2nd half?

If not, what would happen if the 2nd half duplicate had prefer pass (instead of prefer run as the first half duplocate would have had) in the above scenario i.e. opponent ran all 1st half (and thus the D had been in run mode)? Would this have the same effect as a sort of reset?

I dont like how the engine can be tricked and mismatched formations end up the result. the D doesnt change fast enough.

I also want to know why my D sets up a formation against O which i dont even have setup in my playbook.

If you have "any" for quarter in your defenive PB then that rule will never reset. Yout opponent can run for the first 2 quarters, where even if your rule says "prefer pass", your defense will line up for the run after a few plays. Then your opponent switches over to passing in the 3rd and 4th quarter, but your defense will never line up against the pass anymore, since the number of rushes that already happened outweigh the number of passes (MAYBE by the end of the 4th Q the passing plays will be more than the rushing plays so your defense can adjust).

But if you have separate quarters for every PB rule (or at least 1st and 2nd half), then at every new quarter (or half) the defense starts gathering info from scratch, so yes, in this case the rules reset to 0.

Seriously? You gave up some points by what is generally just a good example of scheming/gameplanning, in a game you won and now you ask what can be done about it?

Having a balanced base Defenses is indeed a natural way to counter this development, besides resetting. The more complete a D is, the more balanced the formations can be, the less exploitable the tendencies are.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page here, this is not merely about having the ideal formation in play, but also having the D in the right mode.

In the 4th Qtr my D started to play the pass better even b4 the pass formations started to appear since the D was starting to think pass more even b4 the formation flipping.

i never worry; i set base d's primarily and even if i get burned a couple of times; i seem to do ok even with my shall we say; mediocre defense; personally i think my team would be a lot better if we cut down the PA's

I think thats because my backups (especially at QB) took over in the 4th quarter
