Suing the NFL; my two-cents. Wrong. A five year-old could tell you that the sport seems dangerous and could lead to injuries. I played football, and knew the whole time it could happen, but I played anyway- - -personal responsibility ignored.

I cant honestly defend either side of this argument. Pro footballers know what they are getting themselves into, as you previously stated, but with the advancements in technology where a player's protection is concerned warrants the question, "If they knew the risks then, why didn't they act sooner?"

It's a "catch 22" where both sides of the argument cancel each other out...but please dont get me wrong. It's never a good thing to see someone get hurt or cut their life expectancy down by at least 10 years...but it's not like they dont get paid enough to keep themselves in good enough shape.

Excellent points made and yep, if they knew the risks then why not act sooner? The advancements in technology would help protection as well as preventative maintenance so to speak, yep lol. "You're a great ball player Joe, but your left foot bone marrow is extremely weak, and you could break it permenantly. You probably shouldn't play football." And most agreed, a career ending and new life-long injury is a horrible fate for anyone.

A perfect example is the linebacker from the movie Any Given Sunday, where he was one sack off a million dollar bonus and the team doc altered the test results to ensure the player could play.

I love the quote when he's getting carted off, "Dont y'all drop me now...i'm worth a million dollars!"

It sums up the mentality of the players very well.

There are a lot of things to consider in those issues.

Sometimes "security" is not matching with "sporty, sexy image".
The NFL and its players want to sell products and that's now a multi million dollar business.

I read once an article about doping.
Someone did ask athletes if they would cut their lifespan dramatically by using a for sure win medical. The majority did say YES.
So being famours and successfull for some years was for them worth a short life.

The lawsuits now are only a tool to get more dollars by those players.
Of cause they knew the risks. And the NFL did support it, because everything was supposed to be bigger, stronger, sexier and brighter.

The interesting thing here is, if the NFL will change something to avoid those suits in the future...

That is a great post...Ratings seem to be everything these days. Be it TV viewing figures, gold medals or world records.
