So an o-lineman can't be expected to block someone that takes a step to one side? Wow, maybe NFL ends should try that then.

40 yard dash never says it all. Game speed can't be measured. It is as important for a DE as any other position because it give you and indication of his burst off the line. Also it's nice if your end can get in position for a wide run, and it's nice if he can catch the qb

I never said it was the end all be all stat when it comes to value a player. There's much more involved than that. But Scouts do value it tho.

Mingo at no. 6 to the Browns was a little shocker, but Ray Horton will know how to make the best of him.

As a Jets fan, I am disappointed yet again with Rex Ryan on draft day. The guy has an infatuation with first round DTs. I'm okay with the Dee Milliner pick, but for a team which has had a miserable offense the last two seasons, I would have liked to see us get the O some help. Was really hoping that either Mingo or Dion Jordan dropped to us, then was hoping for Tavon Austin when they were gone ... I would have loved us to get Eifert at 13 ... very disappointed.

I can understand you. The Jets wasted two promising picks. Let's see what they will do in the second round. I think TE Eartz will be picked by the 49ers before them... WR Allen or Patton might be good options... even a QB will be no mistake for them.
But Rex will only have an eye on his defense and might pick another defender.

Me like, as a Browns fan. Build the defence up enough to make the opposition give you the ball back quickly.

With more teams throwing the ball in the NFL the better the pass defence the better it will be for winning things, which has been a rarity in Cleveland for too many years.

by taking the step to one side, the End gives himself a better angle for the pass rush and beating the block. Keeping the tackle of guard and changing the body position and footwork of him too.

The dash times are incredible giving these guys are more often than not over 300lbs

You really think the Jets did that bad? The first two picks fixed the defense, and no one DL fit their needs and best potential as Richardson. Then they grab Geno in the 2nd, an absolute A pick for his value. Two guards to fix the line. True Geno won't have much to throw at but they can still grab a falling prospect at this point and go FA or wait until next year.
