Japan, Canada and Mexico could have a chance against the US if they have a bad day, but don't underestimate one thing:
If this would be Olympic, some more and better US players might show up. And I don't think that Japan and Mexico can bring better players. The US can. Easiest trick: Send Junior College players one year before the draft .... Last edited on 2013-12-12 20:23:25 by jack6 |

I'd love to see a real US national team play meaningful football. Imagine Peyton throwing to Calvin & Andre Johnson, Fitz, Gronk and Jimmy Graham on a 2TE empty backfield set. Who's going to cover these guys?
Even a "rest of the world" team wouldn't stand a chance against these guys. Also, if Peyton gets hurt you can throw in Brees, or -G.O.A.T-, or Rodgers |

Why? I see that his wiki page says that he is "part Swiss descent" but that could mean that 4 generations ago one of his family member was from Switzerland and as far as I know the Swiss nationality is one of the hardest one to obtain.

From wiki:
"Citizenship in Switzerland may be obtained by a permanent resident who lived in Switzerland for at least 12 years (any years spent in Switzerland between the 10th and the 20th years of age count double) and lived in the country for 3 out of the last 5 years before applying for citizenship. One should be able to speak in at least one of German (preferably Swiss German), French, Italian or Romansch (depending on the municipality) and show the following: integration into the Swiss way of life; familiarity with Swiss habits, customs and traditions; compliance with the Swiss rule of law; no danger to Switzerland's internal or external security." So Roethlisberger would need to spend 12 years in Switzerland and learn one of the languages above before obtaining citizenship so the Swiss national team would have a 43 year old QB if he moved there right now |

Don't worry we probably won't let NFL players play, we'll send out the All-American College Football players if anything

The one problem with football in the Olympics, is that the games last for 2+ weeks (usually 16-17 days). It would be really tough for most football teams to play more than a few games in that period of time....its just not a sport you can play on a daily basis.
Additionally, the number of career ending injuries is a lot higher in football than other sports. I wonder how motivated professional teams would be allow their stars to play in the Olympics. Soccer clubs already complain about their stars doing international duty....and the injury rate/risk is a lot lower. Why isn't rugby in the Olympics - - there are certainly more countries where rugby it popular than football. Steve SD Blitz |
