Fascinating.
My first petrol head rush was about 1970 and probably due to my Loony Tunes Uncle who used to visit on his 750cc Honda and take me for a ride. He wasn't really a Loony, but I remember his adrenaline rush was racing. He was one of those that used to throw himself around in a sidecar. It was some spectacle, mind.
1976 - Hence first wheels. Yamaha 50, "A Fizzy". Had a reliable heart of it's own and great for shooting round the `chippy`.
1978 - 82 Proud owner of a BSA 250cc Starfire. Not as fast as some mates jap bikes, But why rush. Enjoy the attention and the noise of one Thump every lamp post.
1982 - 83 The misery of a Fiat Panda. With a rugrat on the way my advance to a Triumph Bonneville hit the skids. It demanded breakfast every morning needing a few drops of petrol in the 'carb' to stir. We hated each other. ( Not the kid and I).
1984 - 88 An ultra reliable Mitsubishi Galant. Hell of an improvement. A couple of tyres and a few sips of oil. Sweet.
1988 - 2000 Driving buses ( Depot handily just round the corner) and Coaches across Europe interspersed with a mish-mash of `wheels`. An Austin Metro turning into Fatima Whitbread and deciding to beat the camshaft throwing record after a couple of months. A surprisingly dependable 2 years with a Rover 316. A pampered few years in a 2.5 litre V6 Vectra with boys toys. Leather heated seats, 6 cd changer...etc....side swiped and written off by the Centre Half of a Footy team I was managing at the time. Duly dropped next game.
2000 - 2011 A couple of "Workhorses". A 1.8 Diesel Combi van that refused to die including many trips to Scotland. It's replacement was let go, still healthy and 295,000 miles on the clock.
2012 - Present 2 Ltre Peugeot 305 Diesel. An unwelcome addition to the household. Wife's bargain deal off a Family member. Already looking forward to the next car.

Might get a bike.
