I've been trying to figure out where to post this, so I'm going to post this here since it currently only pertains to Dragons 1.1
The discussion here on the forums about the team rankings got me thinking, so I spent the morning seeing if I could do one that I liked better. This is in no way intended as an insult against Pete. Even if he thought the rankings needed work I would much rather he spent his time working on bigger issues, and this is something I can do without bothering him. (Although getting some things from him would make it go a lot faster!  )
I've taken the Glicko rating system and modified it to look at margin of victory. For those interested I'm using a starting Rating of 1500, with a beginning Ratings Deviation of 350. Margin of victory accounts for 20% of the effect one game has on a team's rating, and margin of victory is currently capped at 50 to lower the effects of bots. I am currently not treating bot games any differently than other games, but that is in part because it would be very time consuming when looking at historical games to figure out when a team went bot. Going forward of course that will be easier, and one day I will take the time to fix the older data. I am currently only doing this for Dragons 1.1, and only for league games. The champ of Champ games are ready to go, but since no teams from Dragons 1.1 faced each other, and both teams must be included, there aren't any to add. In the near future, possibly tonight if I can, I will add the other 7 1.1 leagues and rerun the Champ of Champs. If I'm feeling really ambitious I may do the division 2 teams as well, as the more teams and games there are the better the rankings will be, but I don't think I will do division 3, simply because the turnover is so high. Friendlies are not included and won't be. Same with friendly cups. Super Cups will be difficult unless someone wants to help me get the data I need, or of course if Pete would be interested in getting it for me. Something I noticed immediately is that even without capping margin of victory the bots sank to the bottom very quickly. I'd love anyone's input or questions. There is some fine tuning that can be done for sure, but I thought I would go ahead and get these out here. These ratings run take into account all the league games from season 12 through yesterday. Basically, the bot flag is an indicator (taken at the start of each match) to say whether a team was bot or not. Although this flag is hidden, it means the info (on bot vs non-bot) is now more readily/easily available .... Pete could probably help you with a method to retrieve/utilise this info. |

I knew that it existed, and it would be very helpful, but as you say, it isn't currently available to me. That and a way so I don't have to go into all 112, 116 whatever it is super cup divisions would be handy. I'm doing this without any sort of automatic retrieval, and that would be time consuming. But it would make inter league comparisons much more accurate and useful. Any help at all would be great. |
