Aehm, the discussion phase is over, and there was a decision made...by the community. So please be a little patient and check again once we come up with the final idea.

Was there actually a discussion phase before it turned into a poll?
If there was, it was an awfully quick one.

Coming up with the final idea before the vote? ...

Just keep in mind, what the community voted on was a penalty for "all players to the same position"

So the one confirmed change for the off season is a "nail the teams trying to catch up" change?

In real life, players, for example a kicker, gets tackling lessons, for emergency.
So it stands to send the kicker to the specialists of tackling - the LB’s, or why not, also the DL.
A RL coach would act this way.

But!

For the purposes of the game, the gameplay and the game economy, I believe within RZA such action should be punished!

That's not what this would do since it only affects players on the depth chart. You can train a young LB as a DL for 5 years then move him to LB before he gets on your depth chart and you'd get no penalty from the fans.

And which sort of team can generally afford to not use a promising player for those 5 years? The newer team or the veteran one?

I voted no to this proposal so I'm not the one you should convince here

If it were implemented as the actual vote was worded (ALL players or even say 90-95%) ... I'd be in favor actually as well. Pete has already stated it will be another mystery penalty like the playbook formations thing however.

Having undisclosed rules in your game with rather dire penalties ... is not exactly good game design by any stretch of the imagination. Last time I bothered trying to make a real playbook - it was losing by about 40 points versus NO playbook in scrims vs my own team - due to it inflicting that penalty. This despite the playbook using about 8 formations and FAR more variety, and the game day match settings obviously only using 3 formations in a repetitive way.

All that said, I will likely be quitting soon ... so this particular change affects me very little, and I don't really have a self interest either way here.

I just disliked strongly the notion of another mystery penalty. Having folks min-max'ing (or as Pete called it "light cheating"), is a FAR better alternative, than having folks trying to play your game legitimately getting punished by an undisclosed rule ...

Well, i don't only play the game since yesterday myself... where are those mystery rules?
I haven't found one yet. And it is quite easy to create a playbook without getting a punishment for lopsided tactics, at least imho.

I am one of those few who would even welcome if a player would get a real punishment on a position change. Means there should be an exp. decrease or some skill decrease. It is just ridiculous that a player trains as an LB (like all players in his academy do) for his whole time in the YA and then pops out to be a K, P, DL, OL, QB, FB, RB or whatever. Of course his skills and XP are totally the same on the new position. Not a good concept if u keep in mind that there is no alternative to that from a gamepoint of view (if you wanna maximize the skill advance of ur players).

I agree the real - and severe - penalty should be in position change. Maybe there should be a 'position stat' which would be some sort of 'level' that the guy achieves.

So say you have a STR 45 SPD 45 LB @ Lvl 20 he ought to be far superior to a STR 45 SPD 45 DL @ Lvl 20 who would start off as a LB at a much lower level.

This would affect older teams more as they are likely to have players at (this hypothetical) Level 20+ whereas for newer teams they would all probably be down at Levels 1 - 5.

Some thought would need to be given to how long it takes a level to increase and whether or not levels could/should increase more quickly for younger players. Incidentally this might be the '3rd category' which could decline with age which has been mentioned in other discussions. Food for thought.
