Yes, Flagfootball. Some think it is boring, not Football at all. This Video from last Sundays win of the team I play for will show you: there are impressive plays possible in 9on9 Flag...and yes, we won this game and opened the doors to the German Championship Playoffs halfways, it was closed almost completely before this win, we never expected this to happen

I like Flagfootball, it takes away the violence and boosts the technical and strategic part of the game.

Funny sidenote, I never broke a bone during my regular football playing career, but when I did ONE training just for fun in flag football I broke my ring finger on a "tackle" drill (still did play the whole training, since I thought it was nothing serious).

Pete! I love you!!

This post made me google Flag Football Nederland and this brought me to the site of the, to me previously unknown, Dutch American Football Association (http://www.afbn.nl) and here I discovered that the city I live in have a American Football team!! The Amersfoort Untouchables. I mailed them straightaway for a try-out training.

So thanks for giving me the inspiration to google this!

Does this make me your agent? If so, I receive a 20% bonus if you ever enter the NFL

Enjoy playing this wonderful sport. Good luck with the try-out!

I hope everything works out for you Cheesehead. I enjoyed playing FF. When I was no longer healthy enough to play tackle, I played FF for 3 years. We have some really competitive leagues in my area, but my legs can't handle the running and cutting like I used to.

Uh, something is going on...

2 weeks ago nobody would have thought my team is going anywhere near to the playoffs. For the bigger picture...the german first 9on9 Flag league DFFL is organized in 3 divisions (west, north, east), with 3 teams each. The regular season has put the runner-up from last years competition - Leipzig Lions, and the Berlin Bears, successful team form the older days, into our group. since this makes only 4 regular games for each team, there are interconference games, set. Guess, who we - the poor small Flagteam from the Dresden Monarchs faced...Hamburg Pioneer Snappers - champion 2015 and leader of group north, and the leader of group west, so called Braunschweig Lions - which are somehow a arch rival to the Dresden Monarchs Flag AND GFL tackle team.

Our regular season made us losing by a few points vs Leipzig, and we lost both Interconference games vs Hamburg at our house, and Braunschweig at theirs - close.

Berlin lost to Leipzig twice, and won their Interconference game bith vs weaker teams from north and west.

We face Berlin at home, knowing we need to win desperately, just to have chances for the playoffs. Some masterbrain decided to best two division winners having a wild card, while the "worst" leader and the 3 runner-ups play quarter final playoffs. Ko-games, one game only at the better teams hous.

This caused us travelling last sunday to Berlin...we had to win, they could afford a draw (regular season games can end with draws). Knowing this, we beat Berlin at theirs by 25 to 12...entering playoffs in the last minute. Guess, who we faced again...Braunschweig at their house.

So we travelled the 3 hours to Braunschweig this Sunday morning...keen to play some Football. Pete, starting left guard.

They decided to receive, and we kick great at 4pm - late.... 2 plays later, they starting at their own 5, we sacked their QB in the endzone, safety. 2 points...few inutes later we are in field goal distance, kick....both arms to the sky.....Gooooooood! 5 Monarchs....0 Lions!

This was the halftime as well...in a very tough and physical game, the weather was bright, 30 degrees Celsius.

The 3rd Q was not ours...we receive a sack in our own endzone, me f*cking up the block...5:2...

The 4th have seen two pace drive by the Lions, finally scoring a fieldgoal, and a touchdown + pat. 5:12...damn

3 minutes left on the clock. Our offense is on the field, and we do a 4-play-drive, finishing with a touchdown...the D of the Lions dont get what happened, while we decide all or nothing, and go for the TPC. Im in the battle with that End - as all game long - pushing him far behind the LOS so he misses my QB, and at this time I hear shouting, turn, and see my mates raising their arms...GOOD! we are in the lead again, 13:12...

but still 2 minutes left. The Lions can enter our own 30...12 secs left. They attempt a FG kick - no timeouts left....we follow the ball with our eyes...MISSES....MISSED the damn goal....we enter the field again and for the very first time of this teams history, we kneel down for the victory.

The Monarchs Flag, a team founded less than 3 years ago...enter the half finals, being one of the best 4 teams in Germany...and Pete in the middle of it giving the left offensive guard with such great guys around me, dealing with a 45 ys old sucker each training, twice a week... one two three LINE!

Man, I cannot tell how great I feel, how proud I am...this was one of the biggest things in my life, except my marriage and the birth of my kids...

Whooohoooo

Go Monarchs! Next stop: coming sunday, Hamburg Pioneer Snappers at their house... Monarchs being the underdog, but not without chances

I think Flagfootball is a little different where I live. I played for a few years before I became old and decrepit. When I used to play I would get "accidentally" tackled 4-5 times a game. The opposing player would "trip", and then fold me in half. Pulling the flag, or face planting the opponent both count as a down. I suppose the flags just seemed like a waste of time, when it was easier for people to just face plant you. I always followed the rules because I was stupid; pulling a moving flag is way harder than tackling.
