Whoa what an exciting last quarter!

Earlier in the day Narann win the Scottish championship and qualify by just 10 points PD over the Sabres!

But just now the Sharks win the grudge match but concede points very late, while the Jacks throw everything at the Dragons to win by 20 points.... and the Sharks qualify by a mere 7 points PD!

And the Spitfires fight back big in the 3rd and 4th quarter, scoring a TD with 1:42 on the clock which means that the Aliens qualify over the Raiders by an even fewer 4 points PD!

Many thanks to the Foxes, Sabres, Broncos, Jacks, Dragons, Raiders and Spitfires - and bad luck to all those who fell just short because of PD, what a tough way to be eliminated.....

Good game, but one battle isn't the entire war.

Good game Mr Brownhill you put up quite a fight there. However, I will saviour the pint that we bet and start upon the long road of a rebuild, which is a shame as I felt my team was just reaching its peak.

I'm sure our paths will be crossing again very soon

Happy New Year! to all those still in the Cup, I hope you're not making up Gameplans on New Years Day morning!

Inbhir Narann at Leeds Celtics
The Celtics are one of only two undefeated sides in the Cup (the others obviously the Pub Gang), and only conceded a total of 25 points over the three games – the most miserly by some way. BUT, one of those wins was against the hapless Academicals so their Stats are somewhat bloated. Narann may well be the ‘sleepers’ of the Tournament, they had two good wins against Hitchin and the Broncos and their only loss was during week 2 – rollovergate. It’s very difficult to bet against the Celtics, but it may well be closer than a lot of people think.

The Notorius Pub Gang at Shard End Sharks
The Pub Gang were pre-tournament favourites for the Cup, but didn’t have as smooth a ride as you would imagine. After a comfortable first win they only beat the Raiders by 9, and the Aliens by an even fewer 7 so some work still needs to be done on both Offence and Defence. The Sharks though, will still have a very tough task, they only scored 60 points over the first three games – the lowest of all the Quarter Finalists. They do though have a mean defense – highly rated and highly effective. My bet is that this will be one of the lowest scoring games of the round, can the Sharks find a little extra?

Melittlemenonthepitchinhitchin at Chester Ducks
Two very good teams here, and very little to choose between them. The Ducks have a very impressive looking set of both Offensive and Defensive Linemen, but Hitchin have a better looking set of LB’s, a very good Punter (the Accies most respected position) and a very well balanced set of Coaches. The Ducks conceded 54 points over the first three games, Hitchin conceded 54 points over the first three games……. The list goes on. I’m going to err on the side of Hitchin, just and only just because of the way they adjusted after their first week defeat.

Torchwood Aliens at Erdington Doleys
The Aliens squeaked into the playoffs by a mere 4 points, and the Doleys are the biggest surprise qualifiers. There is a massive rating and ELO difference in favour of the Aliens here, and despite their heroics so far it is very hard to imagine the Doleys coming out on top here. The Aliens kept the Pub Gang to within 7 points in the last game, and their highly rated QB’s and low risk Offensive Plans (no Interceptions in the qualifying rounds) should see them through safely. We love an underdog here and take our hats off to the Doleys, pushing the Sharks hard in the last game and averaging over 11 points in each last quarter of the games so far.

They say age is just a number...well so is ELO. David beat Goliath, Gates beat IBM and Erdington will beat Torchwood.

If anyone knows how to get a good sacking it's got to be the jobless wonders, so forget protecting the INTs, I'd protect your QB's hips (as the Sharks found out on their first touch of the ball against me).

It will be a good game, quite a close game, but for me I'd keep your hat on for now as I'm not done in this tournament yet

Good luck to all in this Quarter Final stage, especially to the over rated half wits down the road...I want my revenge so keep yourselves in this cup.

Good luck Torchwood and may the best team win. EN GARDE

Hi all. And thank you, athos, for the great write-up.

I'm happy with my win against the highly talented Sharks. I'm even happier, since a few 22-25 year old players are delivering the goods already, such as 25 year old LB Pierrick Guy, who added 2 sacks and 1 FF, alongside 7 tackles.

Anyhow. Erdington Doles will be taken seriously after their win against Elite's Aliens.

Good luck to all semi-finalists!!

Absolutely, I think win of the Tournament so far - BRAVO !!

Good luck to all semi-finalists!!

Indeed, and comiserations to the Aliens, Sharks, Narann and especially Hitchin who were leading until 3:16 left in the final quarter.

I'm surprised at the scoreline myself really, I can't believe I only forced FGs and didn't let the TD in...

But now to a more familiar setting...the pub. The Jobless Wonders are on a bit of a roll at home so far, then again so are the Pub Gang away. Makes for an interesting tie.

The murmurs of the Pub Gang have been heard throughout Erdington, so a side I will prepare for. But nevertheless, Athos, keep you hat on...I don't think I'm quite done yet

More from me as the week goes on, until then Toni

Two very different semi-finals, methinks.....

Chester Ducks at Leeds Celtics
When these two teams met in the Group Stages it was closer than the 23-13 scoreboard and Stats suggested. The Celtics won with almost double the Yards and a comfortable 57% of possession. But one of their two TD’s was a defensive score and they were only able to put together two decent looking drives. The Ducks are completely solid with good depth all across their Roster and in particular they have very experienced looking DL and CB’s. The Celtics by comparison look a little patchy and I’m guessing will be hoping not to pick up many in-game injuries at QB, WR and OL in Offence or LB in Defence. When you compare the starting QB stats, The Duck’s Magoro has thrown 18TD’s and 0Ints – The Celtics Hategka has thrown 11TD’s and 7Ints. But The Celtics have almost double the Interceptions: 15 v 8, so Magoro could well get caught(!) out.
I think the Celtics will sneak past, but a sneak it will be…..

The Notorius Pub Gang at Erdington Doleys
Unlike the Ducks against the Celtics there is no point in going to the facts and figures to try and work out the result of this game - this is all about intangibles. The Pub Gang have quietly and unspectacularly beaten every team faced. They were the pre-Tournament favourites and it’s not difficult to see why: Supercup finalists at the end of last season (beating the Celtics in the semi-finals), they are undefeated in both League and Supercup so far this Season.
But what can you say about the Doleys? Well, not much actually – just a few brief words: they are Team of the Tournament and have taken over Monkeys Title as ‘The coach who finds a way’.
Still fancying the Gang, but as Toni said himself ‘the Erdington Doleys will be taken seriously’
