Ooo, maybe my team should change their name to reflect their actual geographical location for this final against Erdington?

Unlike the Doleys, obviously

Looks like the Battle of B23 is on!!

And for such an occasion I think I will definitely need one of my very very special team talks in the Cross Keys Monday!! No spying on us lol. And no we don't need to work when we are the Jobless Wonders

I haven't had a chance to look through my game yet but GG Firenze, I really didn't think I had a chance at 8 points down. I shocked myself when I opened up the game just now!

San Diego Blitzkrieg 21 33 Leeds Celtics
Leeds only came away with three points in the first quarter despite two long drives. But very impressively and ominously held the ‘krieg to just six plays in that quarter - 2 three and outs. Then the Celtics scored a TD on the first play of the 2nd quarter and the ‘krieg were up against it. San Diego fought back hard in the third, outscoring the Celtics to close the game to just two points at the start of the fourth. Which is where all the fun (if you weren’t involved) began. The Krieg missed a FG that would have put them in the lead, then just as Celtics were about to enter FG range they throw a pick. San Diego drive right down to the 15yd line then blow a 3rd and 1, and miss the FG! The Celtics finally get it together and drive 77yds to score a TD. By now we’re late in the game, and first play after the kickoff one of the two Sebs in the Celtic LB corps Sacks QB Gregoire on San Diegos 17yd line, and two plays later the ‘krieg go for it and fail on 4th Down - Game over.

The ‘kriegs QB Gregoire actually had a very acceptable game, better than the Celtics Hategka, but overall the Celtics racked up way more yardage and consequently T.O.P. And on Defence, San Diego were only able to get a single TFL and just one big play - that 4th quarter interception. The Celtics managed 5 TFLs and two Sacks, not that much better- but their DL and LB’s clearly exerted massive pressure on San Diego - the ‘krieg OL managed 33 Pancakes contrasted to the 89 achieved by the Celtics OL.

So the Celtics move on and ensure the trophy stays in the UK, San Diego are off to the weight room, check rule books and go for an eye test.

Firenze Foxes 31 37 Erdington Doleys
An even bigger 4th Quarter squeaker here folks. The Doleys had a great first quarter (considering the skill difference) with a TD and FG. The Foxes fumbled the ball away, went 3 and out, then stall just short of FG range. The second quarter is pretty even: all long drives with the Doleys picking up 2 FG’s to the Foxes 1. The third quarter is still tougher - no mistake hard nose football: two mega drives and a TD for each side. At the end of these two drives the Foxes have the ball with 1:38 in the quarter, 13 points down -and here we go. Second play of the fourth; bang - 45yd TD pass: 6 points down. First play after kickoff: 22yd Interception TD: 1 point lead. Two plays later the Doleys fumble the ball away, 3 plays later the Foxes score another TD: 8 points ahead. Three and out for the Doleys...... what a disastrous first four minutes of a quarter, especially as the Foxes start marching straight down the field again. But they stall on the 30 and miss the FG. And in hindsight that was the turning point - the Doleys finally string a drive together and 63 yards later are in the Endzone. Then their Defence also steps up and get the ball straight back. The offence go 67 yds for another TD to retake the lead and just leave 2:12 on the clock. The Foxes are spent and make it no further than their own 39, and the game is over.

Defensively the stats show that the Foxes had the better of it, but of course it’s the score line that counts, and here it’s also confusing because if you look at the stats there was very little difference in the offence too - it could be argued both ways.

So where does that leave us? No doubt with Firenze scratching his head wondering what went wrong, and Hills thinking about applying to join the magic circle. More respect to Hills and a sympathetic nod to Firenze - somebody has to lose, but it was a GREAT game to watch

Shard End Sharks (ELO 1199) @ Erdington Doleys (ELO 914)
So here we are - sixteen Teams stepped forward and just two are left standing, ironically (or not?) pretty much in the centre of the UK.

We have the Celtics - here since Season 1, previous Elite league members (many times) and previous UK challenge cup winners. And we also have the Doleys - relative newcomers and 1.1/2.1 ping-pongers.

The Celtics stuttered through the group stage, squeaking past the Pitcairn Bounty Mutineers 28:24, and the Stockport Sabres 27:24, before the obligatory walk-over against the Academicals. And it was that soft win that galvanised their competition - after that they were more convincing in beating the Munich Runners 37:26 and then very impressive in defeating the Blitzkrieg 33:21. So momentum rolling, well almost - they just got whacked 41:3 by the same ‘krieg in the Sea Devils/Galaxy challenge.

The Doleys had a more adventurous group stage - beating the Limerick Lickers 34:14, and the Adventurers 27:24, before losing the big grudge match to the Sharks 27:13. A comfortable 45:23 win against the Bonnyrigg Bombsquad and then the great upset over the Foxes 37:31. So momentum growing?? Well in a strange echo of the Celtics - the Foxes have just avenged their loss in the Supercup today.

Facts and figures are that the Ratings say Celtics, and ELO say Celtics too. Logic also says Celtics…. but gut feeling here says the Doleys. Best of British to both Teams - looking forward to the game.
