Sorry for not bringing that up earlier, I wanted to do it but other things were on my agenda.

Big thanks to Yoda for adjusting he HR department deadline. I think the current ruling would devalue the CoC trophy, since if I would have to make the call I would have fired some vets to make room for my YA-Players before the bowl, as RZA is more of a marathon than a sprint. However, I don't like it as this is one of the top 3 Bowls to get in RZA.

Maybe a workaround could be a higher number of allowed players on the roster for the last week of the season, or as Pete said, the final season of a player is guaranteed and I have to plan all year long that I need enough room for my YA players at the end of the season without being able to release retirees. That would also erase the bad feeling I had when I released my retiring LB who hours before made the interception that let me win the Elite Bowl

In my version of the game I can only have 55 players on the depth chart for a bowl game, and I can only promote 6 players... Where can I get the version that allows me to use all 70 players in a bowl game?

Feel free to cut your middle aged players who should take over once your retirees are gone. smart move

You are right, the game does send messages, but I'm a dinosaur regarding playing time and THAT deadline is quite new.
I did not read the message, which is clearly my fault, but honestly it never came to my mind that a deadline would be implemented for contract issues before the last official game of the season.
You don't play very often in that game, for me it's the first time ever and usually I also don't have problems with my YA players and roster, but this season I have a lot of retiring starters and some YA players, which lead to the situation that I needed the retiring players to get fired to get the spots, and with every round of CoC that day was pushed further and further until today.

I did not request the deadline shift, but of cause I'm happy it happend.

Sure 55 players on the depth chart, but you can have 70 on the roster.
I and many other managers do build their backups and future starters on those 15 extra spots and the YA spots.
Usually the best players are the oldest ones, so cutting players does mean cutting starters and that is not a smart move to do prior a bowl game.
Sure I could have cut some other players, but those would have been my future stars, so it just doesn't make sense.

That's a quite hard change, since it does not allow to make business decisions at the beginning of the season.
I would at least suggest to allow firing retiring players prior the first season game.
I can understand that you want to avoid a situation I have right now and for some people this might even be an exploit of the game, but if you don't allow the firing of retiring players right after the season rollover, I think more teams might get into financial trouble and lose management tools for their roster.

A better workaround is to allow youth promotions to bring your Senior team above 70 players. As you'll be cutting retirees within a few days, you won't incur any above roster limit penalties.

I'm pretty sure if you're at 70 players or more, you can't promote. Pete will know whether this is true.

We could do it like the NFL does with veteran players.

Once your player is under contract in the first regular season game, his contract is guaranteed for the season

Might be a good poll question. I'm against the idea of un-cuttable retiring players as it would really impede roster flexibility. Not all veterans are critical players.

Maybe you could pay them off in order to get them off the roster with an upfront payment.
