You only need to trim the roster to 70 at rollover time including the promoted YA players. The drafties can exceed the 70 players rule for some time and you have the week after rollover and before the first game to decide how to move on.
Peters initial idea was to refuse the retiring players to be cut all season long, so be happy with it.

Why he did it?

That's up to him to answer, but it seems he did not like the way "we" manage those players, cutting them prior rollover for YA players spots. So he did force the managers to decide what to do, keep or cut, prior the season starts.

It would be great if those players would then apear on the TM, cheap and with a better TC gain to show it the former team one more time.

By the way, you have to look into the CoC thread of last season to find the initial discussion.

The problem with that is that retiring players and promoted YA players should never be counted under the same roster limit since they will never play together and are part of different seasons. Retiring players play their last game on season X while the YA promotees will play their first game on season X+1. It's a bit weird to force us to carry both under our 70 man limit imo.

I know, but that's what Peter did decide to do.
I was able to get him to allow that extra week after rollover, but that's it.
I can understand the approach, but I'm not happy with it.
Still, the rules are clear and fair for everyone, not like the situation we had which did trigger this change with the CoC final.
Managers will adjust and that's that.

I understand this is the consequence of Pete's decision but the YA promotions was not discussed in the other thread so I don't know if Pete had already thought about it and thinks it's fine or if he had not thought about it and might consider a change.

Come on guys.

We are managing almost 100 players, play books with sometimes hundreds of lines, trainings with half a dozen facilities, the transfer market...

This rule is not something impossible to manage. We can just anticipate a little bit more and make room by selling players (we all have some that will never play and we just want to developp them to cash the money) before TM closes.

And see the brigth side! Now you need to keep your elderlies until they die, it will be a piece of cake to have room in our roster for the draftees.

PS: OK, I admit it, I did not know you could fire someone retiring. I though you were stucked with them until rollover. But that's proof it is easily managable

Everything is manageable as long as there is enough transparency.

However, basically we now have a reduced roster limit as for a total 5 days We need room for a couple of players that will never hit the field together.

I absolutely agree with the action against slavery

I always felt bad cutting the guy who just played his heart out for my team in his final game, but I did it because I compete with other managers, try to get every penny invested in my team and just thought I could not afford to pay a couple of millions (last year at my team: 1.5 Million$ for 7 updates so no small penny) just because of being sentimental for a few bits and bytes.

And in effect, it lowered the financial risks for not getting to the playoffs, so this measure, like it or not, again is a rich get richer measure.

So now the contracts are basically guaranteed. I like it

But why waste a roster spot all season, just because you need him for 5 days. Developing players imho is a serious portion of the fun in this sim.

Please Pete, think about

- Allowing managers to pay out the remaining contract of the retiree (contract sum for remaining weeks plus 100.000$ Bonus)
- Allowing managers to carry 76 players in the final week of the year (TM is closed, you can just need it for your Youths)

and allow us the fun of develop an extra 3 players

Why not players retire right away after the last "official" game of the season? Then we will have plenty time to promote our would be youth stars until roll-over... Does it makes sense? I don´t know how hard this will be to code though.

Just my 2 cents.
