Best way to train your players is to find their STR and SPD caps as soon as you can, whatever their age, and do it by position first - so train OL/DL in STR first, train WR/DB in SPD first. You may find that they cap too early in those stats and need to be moved to other positions or cut. A 40 STR lineman or 40 SPD DB isn't any good, but if the lineman's SPD (or the DB's STR) caps at 48 then you can swap them to another position that suits much better (if they're young enough, that's why you should do this with your Youth Academy players from the moment they're pulled).

If you have a player under age 25 who has 34 STR/40 SPD it won't matter what his technical skills are, no-one will want to buy them. Conversely, if you have a 48 STR/50 SPD player everyone will want to buy them, and again that will still be regardless of his technical skills - its all about physical stats in the TM, first and foremost, and everything else after that.

And I can understand the sentimentality but at some point you have to make the tough cuts.

You have to train them a little (10%), but if you put 90% of the training towards physical training, the physicals will train up much faster.

And you can put the 10% in to something that is generally useful - like POS or VIS

Wait... fitness training affects the speed of training for physical skills? I thought it just affected PC... I'm such an idiot!

(I have fired a few players, I kind of need to unless I can sell them before I go bankrupt)

That would explain why your guys have low physicals. Major bummer, but at least now you know how to do it moving forward.
