Hey Packers,

I'm not very experienced yet with this game (football), so please help me out if you like.

So far I've figured out, to make an offensive play you can run or throw the ball. To assist your passer and ball carrier you can also block opp. defense. Furthermore, due to player safty it is not allowed to hold and "block in the back" the opp. defense. Ok, got it ... but what the hell is a Pick or a Pig? I believe my pig pipes (aka "Ich glaub mein Schwein pfeift." aka "I think I'm going off my rocker."), a pick!? On avg, how often does a pick occur per NFL game? 2 times?

A Pick is another term for an interception. This is where a defensive player catches the pass rather than a offensive player. Thus giving the defending team the ball and an opportunity for their offense to get on the field. Can occur from zero to several times in a game. A couple in total would be the norm i guess.

A pick play is a play designed such that one offensive player will run a pattern such that he causes the defender(s) covering another player to become impeded thus allowing that second offensive play seperation from defenders and the chance to make an easy catch. This has to be done very carefully by the offense as its a penalty if they make contact with a defender to impede him. Ideally you want the offenders pattern and mere presence to cause a defender to have to adjust his run to avoid running into the offensive player (which woukd also be a penalty). This occurs to some extent many times a game. A lot of offensive plays are designed where players cross the field or players cross each other if the same side of the field in the hope that it creates enough problems in the defense that a certain players becomes open.

If you watch the second play when Mike McCarthy is talking from the camera angle behind the goaline it really shows where it was called. Cobb's head and body language is wrong. The coach would have designed that play to look like he is going into a cut and then making that at the moment just before he impedes the defender. These calls are judgement calls but if he had actually sold it like he was running route rather than blocking the officials flag may have stayed .

The first was actually a bad call and secondly it was a botched play by the defense. The coverage there should most likely have been a swap at the point of cross but the inaide defender didnt recognise it. With the help he had over the top he should have taken under coverage on thw middle WR.

Thats the level of detail NFL plays go into, the WR has done a poor job there in his responsibility on that play.

Both were calls which can be let go by officials.

Speaking of which, did anyone hear Tony Romo's commentary on the Bengals/Packers game? I really didn't expect much, but he was actually pretty good.

Tony was just the best QB in that game

After we know how that game ended, there left a few things we can have fun with watching again, hilarious ...

so how do packers fans feel about the thursday night game vs. the bears? dont know if the bears can keep up the incredible rushing performance vs. the steelers, and as long as we start glennon, that offense will never be very efficient and jordan howard looked pretty banged up for a short week. so is that annual packers crises for real this time?

EDIT: yeah I think Romo is really good!

Packer fans will be watching practice participation like little greeen-and-yellow hawks this week, that's for sure... Srsly, there're so many muscle injuries, it's hard to say how many they'll get back on a short week.
