Does this in some way contribute to balance the game, the more established teams have a penalty that perhaps those on the way up don't face. It's another thing that checks long term dominance and keeps the game more competitive for all?

More of an idea to throw out there than an opinion. Hasn't got to the point where it's affected me although the aim of most players is to get to the point where it does!! but I could see how one loss at the wrong time just before a couple of tough games against slightly weaker opponents might turn a couple of expected victories to loss. I guess there are winners and loses in this and it depends largely on the position in the pecking order, strength of opposition etc

I guess it largely depends on whether it's best to maintain a monopoly on top or encourage cyclical change, obviously this is only relevant where teams are already with a good grasp of the game and ready to push to the next level or that Morale loss isn't enough to bridge the gap.

I was thinking that as well at first, but its really too much. A half season lag would have the effect of balancing by punishing good performing teams for half a season. But punishing a team that excelled for 3+ seasons is going far beyond balance.

The rating system does add a balance, its just that the rating movement is too slow right now and can't really adapt to massive team changes such as retirements or fire sales due to financial difficulties.

What then would be a reasonable level of Morale loss if 36% is the top? 20%

I think the Morale lose is fine. Its the ELO that doesn't adjust fast enough. The Beckos ELO adjusted super fast. I can see why Pete might want it to move slower than Beckos (to prevent tampering), but something more in the middle would probably make sense. Probably something where current year games are weighed more heavily than last years games, which are weighed more heavily than the prior year, and so on.

A lot of the morale loss is quickly recoverable by an active manager.

one season few seasons back that. my goal was rebuilding not winning. But ever loss hurt. alot. More than that could be revcovered without wining.
The supercup wins done nothing to recover my lose morale do to my higher elo at the time.

It was my poor morale and a tough set of games that drove that season into the groud. As my rebuilding team the following season made the playsoff and where back forum

I find it interesting that the teams that are on top always want to change anything that promotes parity or presents a challenge. It is consistent though be it not liking certain formations and asking them to be nerfed or trying to shame teams that see they can't win an upcoming game and start young players for exp and future success by calling them tankers and asking Pete to take away their income.

Now it's ELO and morale hits. Rather than complain that Pete institutes systems to promote some parity or that the competition uses different strategy than you want to dictate, simply request that Pete makes a league for you filled with our current bots. If you get the itch to complain and bitch just wait till you win a game against one of the bots and ask him to nerf them further because it just ain't fair.

My point I am trying to make. If I understand the elo.
Is it use all games you ever played. Unlike chess are pieces change. And our tactics change with
And the elo not the morale hits needs some tuning.

Agreed. That is the same point I was trying to make. I'm all for the Rating and the Morale penalties. I just want the Ratings to be more accurate. And BTW, my ELO isn't particularly high, so I am benefiting from the current system.
