We drove down to Iriondon Stadium and had a very long conversation with a very chatty JonatanRiver of the Totoras Patriots. His passion and dedication for the game is apparent to all. Read and learn young managers, this is how you become and stay a powerhouse in the highest divisions in RZA!

Question 1.
Congrats on a perfect start to the season. How confident are you of making the play-offs and what you can do in the play-offs if you reach them?

Thanks! It's a possibility, but I can not be trusted. Last season I lost the chances of going into the playoffs last week. Everything can happen and I have to be prepared.

Question 2.
TE Gabriel Palacios has dropped the ball 17 times on 38 targets (a 44% drop rate). That is very high. Fans are demanding he be removed from the line-up. What is your response to your fan base?

Without doubt. It is one of the problems that I have to solve. You probably need more training. For me, you can not win without good TEs.

Question 3.
What do you think will be the deciding factor in this game?

It is a great challenge. He has great players like Mahlangu or Bradshaw. Your (ed: his) defense has talent and it will be a challenge to score points.

Question 4.
What was your best buy on the Transfer Market ever?

I love Barney Beeler. I look like an old man but I have to tell him. I bought it as a free agent in season 4, 600k. He was everything I expected and more. He played 13 seasons for us. He's probably the first foreigner to be a part of my HoF.

Question 5.
Related to question 1 but focusing more on the long term, give me the state of your team and what you project it to be over the coming 5 seasons.

We are in a good moment. My project is to build a team that stays competitive throughout the seasons. I trust the long-term projects. I do not want to have a talented team with chances to be champions but have to be disarmed a season later by financial questions. I want a balanced team, to remain competitive and fighting to be in the playoffs every year.

Question 6.
What NFL team do you support in real life and why?

The Patriots! I've been a Patriots fan since Tyree's catch. But not only watching the games, I like to investigate, read and know the philosophy of the great coaches of this sport. A few weeks ago I finished reading the book "War Room" (Michael Holley), great story about our coach and his teachings to assistants. I am currently reading "The education of a coach" to know his principles and how he consolidated his idea of the game.

And also impressed by your level of scouting being able to name specific players on the opposing defense!

Yes, it also gives me a reason to believe that Belichick's upbringing is a significant reason why none of his assistants are capable of recreating success at the same level as him. His background is unique and although he has implemented a rigorous process that teaches many of his assistants how to work well for him, I think it takes a special personality type to continue to work through all of his processes without taking shortcuts. His mantra, "Do Your Job" and "No Days Off" aren't just kitschy chants, but exactly what he intends. It should actually be, "Do Your Job, all of it, and do it well because when you do, you get No Days Off" lol. I really gained a great appreciation for him after reading this.

The most successful assistant was Dimitroff. "War Room" narrates the development of Dimitroff in Atlanta and Pioli in KC. Dimitroff learned a lot from Belichick, but his style is different. Just to allow more than 30 people on the day of the Draft, with journalists and celebrities included, shows that their style is different.

I thought Coughlin could build something like that. O Harbaugh in SF. But the years go by and there is no one in the NFL who can handle all the threads of a franchise. From the handling of the salary cap to the need for extra plays of two points.

His attention to detail is amazing considering all of the baskets he has his hands in. Truly remarkable.
