Surprisingly the 2 Admiral teams are not facing off this week

While I want the Admirals teams to win we have two teams who rely heavily on match settings which I've been against from the start.

It be much easy if playbooks where easy to make. And had run pass sliders
That have been suggested many times. As ever time I tried making a playbook it either does not have the pass run ratio I am looking for game in and game out. And more importantly the playbook seemed to get hit pently anyway. So why try.
On the other hand rebalanced the formations on defense is needed.
On offense read mt next post

I've had multiple attempts to build scripted playbooks but they haven't worked. I have set up playbooks which were logically sound, should have worked and had balanced run/pass calls but destroyed my team. By destroyed I am talking my 85 rated team consistently losing to 65 rated teams - I remember having a 'what is going on' discussion in elite and people were resorting to blaming a massive team nerf on my OL coach's low consistency.

The problem seems to be a combination of settings and scripts seems to cause a massive penalty - one or the other seems to be OK. Pete denied this was the case which is fair enough and without the processing info its impossible to disprove as its possible we could have done the equivalent of rolling badly on the random number generator 1000 times in a row but all evidence suggested that some playbook penalty was in force and it was a very heavy one.

For me, the whole playbook thing is flawed anyway. It doesn't make sense for you to be able to scout another team and if they called pass in this scenario you know they will now. I know people like Bwadders disagree with it but percentage based call is essential for the playbook to be relevant tactically. Hopefully we can agree to disagree.

For me, tactics are abut spotting a weakness in your opponent and tinkering your style accordingly. They aren't about writing a 300 line playbook just to achieve a 65% run ratio. Tactics are about seeing the opposition has poor run defence and adjusting your calls accordingly. The current system makes that incredibly difficult without writing 20 lines and hoping its not messed up your balance and triggered a team destroying penalty.

From a logical perspective, writing a heavy playbooks designed to be unscoutable and achieve a 50/50 balance may be impressive from a logical viewpoint but they have nothing whatsoever to do with tactics. In real life, if you want to be unscoutable then when it is 2nd and 7 from the 30 yards to don't necessarily do what you did last time (hence the percentage based calls).

My experience has been that offensive playbook need to be 100% scripted. Any plays coming from the game settings are noticeably penalized.

Just for the record, this has to be coincidence...we do not penalize single plays, or sources of a certain play...it is all about the mix. Having a playbook consisting of 1 play will be penalized the same way having no playbook and call the same play all game long.

My thoughts are the problems from a few seasons ago may have been a bug. Not being critical as its going to be incredibly complicated to code.

The facts were though that when I added (fairly balanced in terms of the Run/Pass ratio per formation) scripted lines to a primarily GS playbook, my team literally fell apart. And when I took them out we started to win again.

I seem to be able to get away with some scripting on 3rd downs plus in the 4th quarter providing I use the same formations as we use in Game Settings but its when you introduce other formations even when seemingly balanced you get hit with the big scary nerf stick.

Next season is a throwaway last season for this team so might fiddle about with it to see if anything has changed.

Mike, I understood only parts of your post. Nerf stick? What do the thumps in general gamestats tell?

I think improvements have been made to the game engine over the last few seasons. In the period I had Mcwhorter (at QB) and was winning a lot of trophies (S17-S22), he posted seasons where he never threw an interceptions and some where he never got sacked. Overall, he was posting 2-3 interceptions and 2-3 sacks per season in Elite League competition. With his completion percentage of 65-67%, it's very difficult to stop the passing game.

In S23, things changed a little bit and fast QBs where no longer unsackable - - but you still need to have the right LB builds to get to them. Basically successful Elite League teams all have top level speed guys at QB to avoid sacks. Still, it is very difficult to beat teams that play SG exclusively and have optimize QB builds. There really isn't a good defense against it. Blitzing works to a limited degree - - but if you looks at the sacks given up by these teams it's still too low.

That said, it's also very difficult to stop the passing game in the NFL today (they've so changed the rules to favor the receivers now).

I still think that RZA gives too much advantage to having a fast QBs and probably not enough impact to OL/DL line play. When are DE's actually going to post realistic sack totals?

On the other hand if WW wins today and the SC final on Thursday he would become only the 3rd team in the history of RZA to win the Elite Bowl and the SC the same season (after the Carrickfergus Knights in S19 and SD Blitz in S23 who actually even won the treble with the CoC.)

I could just win the first Quarter.
