Short passes don't exist in RZA.

Is a 3rd and 17 pass still considered a short pass?

When you do a medium or long pass, the interception rate goes up considerably. If you have 1st and 10, you can't really throw a 17 yard short pass. If you throw a medium or longer pass - - then it's often picked off.

According to what I found, in general when you throw a pass it "aims" at a first down. Avg yardage is significantly lower at shorter distances and completion % significantly higher, but int % kind of stays the same. Maybe Holly can confirm this.

I think that is mostly true on 3rd down. When you throw a "pass" (pretty much the only kind of pass I ever throw) on 1st down, sometimes the pass is a screen pass, sometimes its a 4 yard pass, and sometimes its a 12 yard pass. The AI doesn't always go for a first down on 1st or 2nd.

EDIT: Actually I frequently see my QB throw screen passes on 3rd down too, so I'm not 100% where the rumor of always going for a 1st down came from.

I think it comes from the fact it says so in the manual...

"The Quarterback will try to attempt a new first down if you set just "Pass" without giving further instructions on the depth for the throw."

Maybe we could use better English here! What I mean:

of course the QB aims always for another 1st down...but, he does not throw exatctly to the 10 yard+ marker all the time...he is please with a 5 yarder during the first down as well, as example - but would go for 10+ yards if he sees an opportunity

You mean "RZA simulates real football strategies, action and occurrences".

Right, so that means the QB will still throw a screen on 3rd an 10. Really pretty easy for anyone to see. Just look at the logs of any one of your games instead of trying to interpret what the manual is telling you.

Lots a screen passes thrown on 3rd and long in the pro's. 2nd and long too.

Usually safe. Often effective for positive yards and at times becomes a big play. Good anti-blitz play too.

Thanks pete!

Absolutely, just look at the last 3 games and you will know better than what is written the manual. The dude who wrote the manual apparently has no knowledge of the sim
