Had this happen in a league game yesterday:
1st quarter: 9:58 1 and 10 to go on opp 46, Vinicio Figini (OC) snaps the ball to Seth Whitmire (QB), Seth Whitmire (QB) selected Carol Okeefe (WR/R) as target, Garth Patton (DE/L) breaks through the line, he passes outer right for 22 yards to him, intercepted by Lindsay Prieto (CB/L) on the opp 24 (Singleback Big vs. 4-4-3) more I've double checked which playbook I was running and then put the same details in the playbook checker, and the play shown is: Singleback Big - pass - both flanks - so all is as it should be, except for the throwing for 22 yards bit... In the same game, same down, distance and play call, had these which worked as normal: 1st quarter: 6:24 1 and 10 to go on opp 47, Vinicio Figini (OC) snaps the ball to Seth Whitmire (QB), Seth Whitmire (QB) selected Carol Okeefe (WR/R) as target, this outer right pass goes to the receiver, who catches the ball, Lindsay Prieto (CB/L) missed his chance for a tackle, Elias Söderström (MLB) made the tackle, forward progress: 13 yards, New first down (Singleback Big vs. 4-4-3) more 4th quarter: 15:00 1 and 10 to go on opp 47, Donny Moyer (OC) snaps the ball to Seth Whitmire (QB), Seth Whitmire (QB) selected Chalermchai Mahidol (WR/R) as target, the receiver of this outer right pass catches the ball, the tackle was missed by Robbie Strother (CB/L), tackled by Ronaldo Queiroz (OLB/L), forward progress: 13 yards, New first down (Singleback Big vs. 3-3-5) more Just trying to understand if there is a reason for this to happen, eg random factor, coaches call etc. The game ID is:100567513 |

The INT isn't the point.
In my experience it is not normal for the QB to try a 22 yard pass on 1st and 10 when you have a 'normal' pass in the playbook - ie just pass NOT medium or long. |

I've been told before that the QB can call his own plays to an extent and decide to go for something slightly different to what's in the playbook.

It's really unusual though, been playing since season 23 and I've not seen it happen before in any of my games - at least on 1st down, 2nd and 3rd downs it might be more difficult to work out when the QB decides to freestyle. And, it is the QBs decision of he goes for 10 or 22 yard passes on 1st and 10. You give him a preset in the playbook, but that's it. |

This should really be a choice of the manager of the team, to allow the QB the freedom to do so.
Also, why can we not set percentages to run in certain situations, such as 3rd & 1, 70% run 30% pass? And to make sure I understand it, if I have no 3rd & 1 in my playbook, will it pass 50% of the time, and if so will it randomly choose short, medium, long passes? P.S. I used search to find this instead of a new post, did not notice in bug reports...please disregard that part. P.S.S. And I have discovered the overall play call setting still applies and covers the random question. I guess I'm still confused on how it works but will figure it out eventually. Any pointers would be great, and thanks. Last edited on 2018-05-05 00:10:03 by TheWizardKs |
