I have compiled some game data from season 30, which I subjectively determine as competitive games to backup the scrimmages by BobBoy.
Data from 259 games: - Avg # of Rushes per game = 30.52 Avg # of Passes per game = 45.45 Rushing: - Total # of Rushes = 15814 Total # of Fumbles = 252 Total # of Fumbles recovered = 101 Total # of Fumbles lost = 151 Total # of Fumbles lost for TD = 36 Total % of Fumbles per total Rushes = 1.59 % Total % of Fumbles recovered per total Fumbled = 40.08% Total % of Fumbles lost per total Fumbled = 59.92% Total % of Fumbles lost for TD against total Fumbles Lost = 23.84% (still 2 x too high imo) Total # of Fumbles per game = 0.49 Total # of Fumbles lost for TD per game = 0.07 Passing: - Total # of Passes = 23545 Total # of Interceptions = 584 Total # of Interceptions go for TD = 239 Total % of Interceptions per total Passes =2.48% - Total % of Interceptions go for TD against total Intercepted = 40.92% - (still 4 x too high imo) |

So a conclusion is somehow to reduce the turnovers resulting in a touchdown?

More variability in the returns... not all interceptions are returned, often fumble and interception returns are quite short (less than 10 yards), as the defensive player's priority is initially to secure the ball before attempting the return, or there are 1 or 2 receivers in very close proximity to where the interception takes place - especially those in the middle of the field or on deeper passes.

I think there are too many missed tackles on interception/fumble returns. I understand that offensive players offen aren't trained to make tackles but defenders aren't trained to carry the ball either so this should even out.
Just from my team over the last 5 seasons in Elite in 76 interceptions my CBs managed to break 215 tackles or almost 3 broken tackles per interception return. None of my CBs were trained in carrying during these seasons. Last edited on 2018-05-29 18:36:39 by Meitheisman |

If a CB is trained in carrying, then maybe he should have better/longer returns. But a normal CB should be tackled more often.

The technical aspect of holding a ball while running fast down the sideline is much less sophisticated than a tackle in my opinion.

Breaking tackles is not running down the sideline untouched, it's seeing holes, juking defenders etc... these also require skills.
If in the stats the defenders didn't have any broken tackles I could understand that they just ran untouched down the sidelines but the stats show that they break tackles which is not easy to do. |

breaking the tackle...I guess there are more different stage at it. Breaking the tackle could mean the tackle was lousy as well. Breaking the tackle...

Real Life aside, a Carrying skill for a CB would make for a better game. As it would help distinguish between great CB and a good CB.
