We don't have to forget this is a simulation and not real life. There are so many areas, which are far away from what we know from the NFL or elsewhere...

I also don't think money is the problem. Firstly there are many more teams having higher salaries than the elite top teams. Secondly having the more talented team doesn't give you a much higher chance to win. Personally I think the impact of players talent is too low. Especially I don't see real go to guys or impact makers. I can't see a big difference in the stats of my 4.5 star players compared to 3.5 star players. I also don't think it is worth at the moment to train most players to their limits as it is just costing much money and not giving you much back.

From my point of view the biggest success factor is not football knowledge, it is more about understanding the game engine and cater your playbooks. I am very sure, why one team is on top at the moment. I have played another game with the manager years ago. He spends much effort analysing play by plays and adjusted his playbooks. If I would have more time, I would also write a tool to analyse my and my opponents games and even write a playbook generater based on this. I am pretty sure all top teams are putting much effort in their team, so they deserve it and shouldn't be penalysed.

And yes, it is always good to make things more realistic, but this doesn't solve the problem from my point of view. Not everyone can or wants to put the same effort into the game, but more or less would have to based on the current league structure.

The current structure has probably issues for almost everyone except the top 10 always in Elite teams. The contenders don't have the opponents in League 1 to compete and improve their gameplay. And all the others like new starters, just for fun players etc. are all put in one pot. They get demotivated playing much better teams, don't have competion at their level and most importantly no chance to develop slowly and get up level by level to play against better and more experienced teams.

Even if it is currently quite simple to build and maintain a strong team due to the issues with the transfer market, there aren't enough new managers coming and staying to keep the game alive.

I think many problems would sort themselve, if we would go up to 500+ managers again, but if this is not happening and no structural change is coming it will soon be less than 200.

There should be a downside of playing Elite.

When you created the Elite league you insisted that there should be no difference between 1.1 and Elite, why the change of heart?

I understand you don't want to deal with structural changes but the problem of having a borderline Elite team in the same division as the worst 1.1 team in RZA highlights that the main problem is the league structure.

I expected more D1 manager to be superb. It was never the plan to provide a permanent playground to a few - as it is now. And, Elite was created to provide kind of a waste bin (I know, harsh word) to get rid of these 2-4 teams per region that are superb. But, we do not have 2-4 teams per region who are able to deliver a real fight in Elite, we have less than 1.0 per region. I do not see it as priority task to maintain the fun for those few (5-10 managers), the goal has to be to provide fun for these other 350 managers. This means, the top of elite has to become more challenging. Since this is a management game, it is kind of obvious to create the challenge at the management side. I did one mistake when allowing Mediacenter for Elite, should have done it the other way, and I would like to fix this very fast. Maybe if I do this all other "penalties" are not needed anymore - except on jack6 bankroll maybe

To me, the problem isn't to make the gap closer between all 350 managers but to give us more games against managers closer to us in terms of RZA level.

To use my team as an example, it's not fun when I lose to WW by 40pts and it's not fun when I win against most Fire 1 teams by 40pts, the problem isn't winning or losing. I'd rather have an 8-8 season and win and lose every game by less than a TD than go 15-1 and win most games by 40pts.

There will always be top top managers who dominate the game, no matter the set up. Right now these ~10 managers are in Elite and often play against each other. The problem is for the other managers. I would say there's a second tier from ~11th to 50th manager and then another one from ~51st to 150th manager maybe. It would only increase interest if we can find a way to have more close games by having more games between teams of the same level of play.

That's why I did suggest sometime ago a different supercup format where you play each round against a team with similar or almost similar record.
After a few rounds this should sort the field there quite good.

That would at least make the supercup much more interesting.

Regarding league it's a matter of managers.
With this current numbers the amount of regions are too high.

An alternitive could be to have a different scheduler in league games, but that would mean a much heavier job than today where I think there are a few patterns and you can stick them to every team.
A better version would be to schedule the "open" 6 games (so not the division games and the interconference games against a different divison) by ELO or power or whatever.

If a full structure change isn't an option would removing Elite be one?
I wasn't here before Elite but understand why it was created, to an extent. Mght some of the previous issues be different now that switching regions is an option? I'd like to hear the perspectives from people who have experienced both before and after Elite came in to play
Or what if all 4 Elite teams relinquished their places each season? Gives more teams a go at Elite, might make the CoC more interesting and could help with the media centre issue?

Well wouldn't that make ELITE a meaningless division?

There would be nothing to aspire to.

I went to bed after posting that then thought the problem would be that all the best teams would be in Elite every other year and it wouldn't spread out

The issue with elite league seams to be driven by the 8 divisions that are directly tied to the league you're in (Dragons, Fire, etc). And this is driven by the time slots that each league is dedicated to. So currently there are always 2 teams from each elite division that get regulated, often leading to weaker teams staying in elite while a 12 or 13 win team gets regulated. The time slots seam to be the driving factor!

I may have a solution for this, hopefully I can get it explained properly ...

If "all" game simulations were run at 12:00.
Then every manager would still have a specific time to watch their games. But the time when each manager watches his game is basically a delayed broadcast, set at their time slot.
Then we could regulate the worst 16 teams from elite. Players could then be regulated to different leagues, without effecting their time slots.
I don't think there would be a huge backlash of complaints due to switching leagues. This would basically turn the 8 leagues into 1 massive league. I know I've made friends and good contacts with those in my Dragon league, and those friends would not be totally lost to me, there would just be few games between us, which happens now to some extent (as we regulate up and down). I see no big issue (for me) to be playing in a different league(s), leading to more friends and contacts.
One issue I see would be that your opponent could be playing/watching his game several hours before you. Thus the results of your game would be out there before your watched it. This might be solved by not posting league standings until after all games have been "watched". I guess if you did want to watch the earlier broadcast you still could...

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

Just a remark: we have different timezone not for the managers convinience, but because of the need to spread the calculation of games for spreading the server load. Right now a full run of the simulation for a certain region (a.k.a one of the 8 timeslots) needs about 45 minutes.

awe. that is a problem isn't it....

Sure be nice if we could find a way to better regulate the teams in Elite. Obviously its quite a surprise for a new manager to see a 13-win team regulated while lesser teams get to stay.

Please be aware that those shifts in wins and losses for some parts are also the result of the schedule templates.
